    24 y.o. taking finasteride now

    Dec 31, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

24 y.o., just took the plunge with half a tablet of 1mg fin

You should get metrics so you know the impact of your treatment. get a HAIRCHECK test ( https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/ ) and then repeat it yearly to see if you are getting better or worse. You don’t want to gamble with your future hair coverage. Why not use the recommended 1mg dose which is the most effective dose of finasteride?

Can fin prevent a mature hairline?

    Dec 31, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

Finasteride doesn’t impact the change from a juvenile to a mature hairline because those hairs in the juvenile hairline have a limited number of cycles and are destined to die off (apoptosis). The only way to get your juvenile hairline back is to get a hair transplant to put it back.

Does loss of blood flow cause balding?

    Dec 31, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

This is an old wives tale. It is the hair that generate the blood supply. The human body is smart and supplies blood and oxygen to needing tissues. We see that when balding occurs and the hair is lost on some area of the head, the blood flow to the balding area slows down proportional to the loss of hair.

I picked this area, will my hair grow back?

    Dec 30, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

There is a condition called Trichotillomania which is a good possible diagnosis. See a dermatologist who will look at it with a hand microscope called trichoscope and make the diagnosis for you.  If it is chronic picking that you did that caused it, it may not return.  You will know if you can stop picking it, give it 4-6 months and you will know if it is permanent of not.

People who have trichotillomania are not candidates for a hair transplant because they just will pick off the new hair, so many hair transplant surgeons don’t treat this condition surgically unless the underlying problem of picking is solved

8874 Grafts (a clear failure of transplant)

    Dec 30, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

The question I would ask if he really received 8874 grafts in two sessions?  A failure of this magnitude reflects a very poor delivery organization for hair transplants. The hairline itself is designed as a female hairline, not I suspect what he thought he was going to get

    Shower hair loss significant

    Dec 29, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

I’ve been on fin for about 6 months now, and haven’t really seen much positive difference. However I am noticing that when I run my hands through my hair I get less loose hairs out, although I also got a haircut recently. My question is, how many loose hairs do you generally get when doing these actions? I get around 20-25 in the shower overall, and between 0-3 when running my hands in my hair/ scratching my scalp.

The average person loses 100-150 hairs per day and a vigorous shower is a good place for a lot of it

Why are finasteride sexual side effects mostly reported in older men?

    Dec 29, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

Pretty much all of the original fin studies looked at men who were like 55, or 62. When you look at 55 or 62 year olds, over half of them have ED and low libido due to atherosclerosis and dropping hormones, so no wonder they wouldn’t notice a difference with fin.

That is because the drug finasteride (Proscar) was first developed for prostate problems and that doesn’t occur in men under 55 years old as a general rule. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is relatively common in men over 55 with a frequency as high as 50% of men, so if these men take finasteride (Proscar which has 5mgs of finasteride in it for prostate hypertrophy), then their ED is reported in the studies of these men.

Do minoxidil and Finasteride results plateau?

    Dec 28, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

If you are getting benefits from these medications, the benefits will eventually reach their maximal hair results and will plateau.  Make sure that you stay on these medications or you will lose what you got

I’m on topical minoxidil and oral finasteride and still shedding for a year

    Dec 28, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

I’m on topical minoxidil and oral finasteride and still shedding for a year. I am thinking about switching to dutasteride and oral minoxidil. What do you think?

It might be worth a try as it sounds like the genetic hair loss is out of control

    Vasoconstrictors and MPB (Adderall, caffeine)

    Dec 27, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

Posting this thread to get your opinions/insight. If minoxidil is the opposite of a vasoconstrictor, does this mean stimulants could have the opposite effect of min and elicit the follicle to squeeze shut even faster in people prone to MPB?  Additionally- If this is the case- would the effect be negligent at best? Could be totally wrong but I’d like to hear from someone who knows a lot about follicle mechanisms.

Although Adderall has known hair loss effects, I don’t believe it is related to its vascular properties.  Caffeine stimulates hair growth so you got it wrong here.

Do hairs thicken in new anagen hair cycles?

    Dec 27, 2021/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

For example, if there is a miniaturized hair due to T.E, so will the hair grow thin at first, then fall off and grow and bit thicker and this cycle will go on till the hair follicle achieves it’s full thickness ?

Hair does not normally thicken in cycles unless it is miniaturized and impacted by DHT blockers like finasteride or dutasteride.

A History of Long Hair in Men

    THE LONG HAIR

Traditionally, long hair has always been a symbol of masculinity. All of history’s great warriors had long hair, from the Greeks (who wrote ode to their heroes’ hair) to the Nordic, from the American Indians (famous for their long shiny hair) to the Japanese. And the longer and more beautiful the hair was, the more manly the warrior was considered. Vikings had their braids, and samurai used their long hair as a symbol of their honor (they cut their braid when they lose their honor). The Romans are the ones who “invented” short hair to say it somehow, between the 1st and 4th centuries. S.. In battles they believed this gave them defensive advantages since their opponents couldn’t take them by the hair. This also helped them to recognize each other on the battlefield. But at the same time it was a political decision, and the emperors imposed this habit on men as a form of political-social control. Many villages continued to maintain the traditional custom of associating long hair with masculinity even after the Roman invasions. There have also been societies forcing men to wear wigs, because their natural hair was not pretty enough (e.g. France XIII Century). Short hair in men is a relatively new invention that has nothing to do with aesthetic. Nowadays men use it short because the peoples conquered by the Romans adopted this habit generation after generation and we inherit it. Nowadays it seems almost natural and many believe men are better off that way, but this belief is the result of cultural indoctrination. In addition to the reasons the Romans had for cutting their hair, short hair became a symbol of humiliation.

When a warrior was captured, they cut his mane to humiliate him, to take away his beauty. This habit has been incorporated into what is military service today. When new soldiers begin their training, the first thing they do is cut off their hair to undermine their self-esteem, make them submissive, and show them who’s in charge. He looks so innocent today. Men are not so worried about aesthetics and it is very comfortable to use it for their short. But if we think about it, the social obligation to cut one’s hair is comparable to the oppression suffered by women throughout history, not letting them show their legs by wearing short skirts and stuff, which doesn’t apply anymore. But nowadays we see humiliated men, sometimes called “gay” for using long hair, not knowing that short hair is actually anti-masculinity and it’s a repressive social imposition, while long hair symbolizes l Berta. On top of all the above, it’s a form of psychic sensory domination by the elite to keep the human being asleep.

This is a wonderful head of hair that makes us all envious.  Children at this age can appear bald on one side of the spectrum or like this little girl
