    Trump uses hair clips, why?

    Feb 28, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

These clips are likely used to fix a hair system to the side hair that is the permanent hair that never is lost on every man who has genetic balding.  I believe that he uses a very expensive lace hair system which is glued in the front and attached with clips on the side and back.  That would mean that there are three clips used for side and back security. This photo shows the existence of one of those clips.  The fine frontal hair it attached to silk lace which is then glued on a shaved or bald frontal scalp.

Topical minoxidil isn’t working. Why is that?

    Feb 28, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes
Many non-responders to topical minoxidil will respond to oral minoxidil, see why here: https://baldingblog.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=49218&action=edit  So oral minoxidil may be worth a try

Finasteride, minoxidil twice daily, and microneedling plus many other things (photo)

    Feb 27, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

One of my nephews given finasteride by me developed a raging libido like you did from finasteride.  I have seen this not infrequently. I believe you tossed in everything but the kitchen sink at your hair and it worked.  This man used minoxidil and finasteride for one year and microneedling for 6 months and other modalities including nutraceuticals, pumpkin seed oil, etc

    Isolated forelock with “corner recession”

    Feb 27, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

This young man at 27 years old has a strong forelock and a thinning corner that appears to be miniaturizing away.  The genetics on #1 is classic for a maturing hairline and the genetic on #2 is different than the rest of the hair on his head.  Men with strong forelocks, even when they are bald, may retain the forelock if it continues to be present by the age of 35.  I have seen Norwood lass 6 and 7 patients who retain their forelock despite the extensive balding present.  In evaluating a man with a forelock, one has to look at his overall balding pattern, omitting his forelock in classifying him on the Norwood scale. In this man’s unique presentation, he is not really balding anywhere else on his head, so what we are observing  on the corner hairline may be a normal maturing process.  Over the next few years, we will know for sure. I wouldn’t treat the changes in the corner miniaturization as it may not respond to DHT blockers.

10 weeks oral minoxidil plus microneeding

This is a terrific way to treat this type of early hair loss.  Nice early results

I treated this with minoxidil which I rubbed into my scalp once a day and microneeding once a week.

Minoxidil and finasteride consistent for 1 year (photos)

    Feb 23, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

This man was intermittent in the use of minoxidil and finasteride in the first of two years.  After a year of less than 100% consistency, he stuck to daily use and got good results.

    I’m 19, can I start taking finasteride?

    Feb 23, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes
19 is not too young to start finasteride if you are 100% sure you have genetic balding. What concerns me generally, too many young men THINK that they are balding and commit a lifetime to taking the drug finasteride when they are not balding. There is nothing wrong with going on finasteride now; however, I wouldn’t want to do it until I was 100% sure that you were in the balding process as it is a lifetime commitment.

Great result with finasteride alone in a man under 25 years of age. The age is important because finasteride works best when hair loss is recent

What not to do in finding a hair transplant doctor (from Web MD)

    Feb 20, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes
    • Avoid turning to the Yellow Pages when seeking a hair transplant surgeon.
    • Avoid referrals from your dermatologist or family practitioner.
    • While your family doctor or dermatologist might mean well, the fact is that most physicians in this country know very little about the scope and pitfalls of this demanding cosmetic procedure. Unless your doctor has personal experience with the hair transplant physician he is recommending, our advice would be to say thanks, but no thanks.
    • Avoid referrals from your hair stylist. In some cases, hair stylists may receive compensation from hair transplant surgeons for referrals. Be careful.
    • Avoid large hair transplant groups or practices that employ or contract physicians to perform hair transplantation under a common umbrella.
    • Avoid practices advertising on television infomercials. While these larger groups have the ability to buy public opinion through expensive and flashy television, print, and radio marketing, this may not equate to superior surgical results.
    • Finally, remember, just because a “company” or “practice” claims to be one of the largest does not mean that they are one of the best. The American Hair Loss Association recognizes that these large practices do employ some skilled and ethical physicians and that it is possible to attain satisfactory results. Do your homework first before you decide on a surgeon.

    Telogen Effluvium stopped shedding

    Feb 20, 2023/by William Rassman, M.D./0 /Hair Loss Causes

Despite that it stopped shedding two months ago, my hair has not yet returned.

Be patient as hair grows in at a rate of 1/2 inch per month and it comes back in waves.  With your long hair, it make them difficult for you to see the new hairs that may be growing, that is, until they get enough length to add to your total hair bulk.
