Nizoral Shampoo

Aug 24, 2005/by William Rassman, M.D./8 /Hair Products

Is Nizoral better than other shampoos and can it promote hair growth?

Nizoral 1% (Ketoconazole 1%) is sold as an over the counter anti-dandruff shampoo. Nizoral 2% (Ketoconazole 2%) shampoo has twice the strength of the over the counter shampoo. The active ingredient, Ketoconazole is said to act as a DHT blocker. While some people who use Nizoral may believe that it does control hair loss, there is no objective evidence that it is anything more than a good shampoo.

    Dr. Rassman,
I live in India, am 50 years old and have an acute case of hereditary balding, inherited through both parents. Both my children have acquired this problem unfortunately. My son aged 19 is losing hair very qickly, so also my daughter aged 20. My son had some success with minoxidil taken together with vitamin and micro-nutrient supplements, but he was recently cautioned against using minoxidil tpoical lotion (5%)by someone in the field of pharmaceuticals, saying that continued use wuld lead to impairmnt of his reflexes and a general slowing down.
My daughter is trying Schwarzkopf shampoo & serum, plus vitamin supplements, without much of a visible improvement. Please advise.

I have seen that dandruff can be eliminated with a change of diet. Many people are unaware of their allergies and low tolerances, and instead carry on eating foods that cause eczema and also dandruff.

I have been using the OTC 1% Nizoral for 7 months, and if anything it gets rid of oily hair and makes for a nice, clean, healthy scalp. It’s hard to tell if it helps with regrowth or not because I am on Finasteride and Minoxidil, but it can’t hurt at $9 a bottle. The bottle lasts about 6 weeks.

    Hey meena,
ur from india u must be familiar with unani medicine, go for egg oil solutions, and minoxidil should be avoided after around 18 months, would affect you severly, can cause hypertension, high bp,skin infections,internal/external swelling etc…
If ur not able to find egg oil, also apply olive oil overnight to regain and stop the damage and almond oil after a bath for conditioning it promotes hair length
    to a great extent
