With all due respect for Thailand and other foreign countries, do you really think that if hair cloning has been successful it would have escaped the research and popular media of the United States? What I’m getting at is this — just because you see it advertised in Thailand, it doesn’t mean it’s real. Hair […]

Snippet from the article: Read the full story from the Financial Times — Unihair gets a grip on baldness There is a big difference between what we hope to achieve with using ACell in hair transplantation to multiply hairs in an ‘auto-cloning’ manner and what Unihair (formerly Aderans prior to September of this year) is […]
Snippet from the article: Read the full text at Dermatology Times I just wanted to post this to show that I’m not just some curmudgeon when it comes to advancements in hair cloning. I still get emails from some readers with an accusatory tone when it comes to my opinion on hair cloning, and I […]
We have written about hair cloning (or lack thereof) many times before. There are groups that are working on it, but people have been flocking to message boards to show their excitement prematurely. Hair cloning is in the very early stages, and while there have been some promising advances it is still far too early […]
I always find the prediction of when hair cloning will be available to be interesting. For the past 19 years since I entered this field, the predictions on cloning have always been 2-3 years out. I am hopeful as all of you, but any breakthrough will take years to work its way through the FDA.
As I’ve said many times before (which is usually met with much criticism by some readers that think they know better), I wouldn’t hold my breath. We all want to wait for the next breakthrough, the next best thing, the next version, etc. The idea of being able to clone hair for infinite supply is […]
I have seen some videos taken from CBS 60 minutes and another CBS news release that outlines an approach to growing organ parts (see here and here). The challenge of growing an entire organ like hair (which is a complete organ containing skin, glands, fat, nerves, blood vessels, stem cells and special hair growing cells) […]
I think that hair cloning will be available at some point in the future, but certainly not in the immediate future. I feel like I’m the lone person willing to say that it is not ready for primetime yet (not even close), and I wonder why some people are just willing to believe every press […]
Come on now, I’m sure that he believed that the solution would be at hand in 5 years or so. If a weather man predicted a sunny day tomorrow, and tomorrow came with heavy rain, would you call that unethical behavior? There are limits as to the predictability of the future. In our capitalistic society, […]
The difference relates to the mechanism of action for Follica which is distinctly different from hair cloning. A Follica press release states, “By studying wound healing on a molecular level, Dr. George Cotsarelis and colleagues discovered that the skin has the ability to revert to a more primitive or ’embryonic’ state as stem cells migrate […]
You need to find a good, caring doctor to sit down with you after a thorough examination of your scalp and give you a Master Plan to work with. I couldn’t tell you if you’re a candidate for a hair transplant without at least seeing you… but even if your balding is as advanced as […]
It’s not that the medications will stop working — it’s that your body tries to fight the meds. So usually around 5+ years of taking finasteride, some people will report that they’re seeing a little more hair loss than they’d been used to, but its not that case for everyone. I’ve got patients that have […]
My heart goes out to you. If the medications do not work, there is little to offer other than the use of concealers. Hair cloning can not be predicted for a time line. If/when cloning becomes a reality, these types of questions can probably be answered, but it is way too early to guess as […]
Hair cloning procedures available to the general public are still many years away. Maybe there will be medications required, maybe not. At this stage, no one knows. Any cloned hair would have to be DHT resistant or what is the point in cloning hair that is susceptible to falling out again? Complete failure of a […]
Some people think that there is a missing protein, and that when present, it will kick in hair growth from some residual hair elements that are in the scalp. If a missing protein is the answer, then the growth cycle may be dependent upon that molecule (see Scientists Find Hair Growth Molecule in Mice). There […]
