I get this question quite a bit from patients who have already had the hair transplant strip surgery and then inquire about having a follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure to follow it up. It makes little sense for the person that already has a strip scar (no matter how wide it is) to have an […]

There are no easy answers. Your examination in the office showed that you have already lost 61% of the hair in the crown, 26% of the hair on the top, and 32% of the hair in the front. With my naked eye and your blond hair color, one can’t really make out the balding at […]
When properly designed, Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) can work with hair transplants and possibly with a good cloning process once cloning is practical. Hair cloning is “not ready for prime time”, but I expect that once it is viable, any good cloning procedure must restore a normal appearance, including the leading edge of the hairline which […]
Wearing a hair piece or hair system will not damage the Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) pigment. If the glue does not damage your skin it should not damage the micropigment under your skin.
The initial laser-reversible pigment we obtained was tested on a very limited basis and in small cases. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain more than the test supplies and have been unable to find a substitute… so it’s not something we pursued much further. We currently only use permanent pigment in SMP sessions.
The pigments have their limitations, but are particularly good for men who want their hair shaved to almost scalp level (closely cropped). You are correct that as you gray, the pigment may produce problems, but usually these pigments gray a bit anyway. I would have to see you, at least see the pictures of your […]
DermMatch will not rub off. Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) will not rub off either…. but it is permanent. DermMatch is cheaper and will wash off.
The way we do SMP (scalp micropigmentation) is by creating individual “dots” that mimic a shaved scalp and an end view of the follicles. We don’t “paint” the scalp. If you should lose your hair from chemotherapy or further hair loss should develop, it should not matter because SMP can be performed over the entire […]
Yes, this is a good option… but you must get educated on the facts that go along with it. Remember, this is a permanent decision so it needs to be thought through carefully. Here is a 22 year old in your similar situation — Client 17. He started losing his hair when he was 16 […]
I think we’ve answered this before, but in general, we do not perform SMP to certain parts of the scalp since as you point out, it would not blend in with the changing of hair color. For example, we sometimes leave the areas around the ears and neck. Scalp Micropigmentation is permanent. If you want […]
Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) works best for those who want to shave their hair (keeping it clipped very short). Even hair as long as 1/2 cm may not look right with SMP. You must remember that this is a permanent pigment (tattoo) without a three-dimensional texture. Let’s say you had a scar on your scalp from […]
That seems like awfully too many hair transplant surgeries. Added to that, if you are still considering having more surgeries it sends a huge red flag. I read your requests and it seems a bit too drastic, but also note that I do not know your history or even know your ultimate expectations (as 8 […]
Video: NHI on California Adventure TV When we did this interview and video shoot for California Adventure TV, the host was very excited and she showed it in this piece. Can you imagine why we got excited? And in case seeing a beautiful woman talk about hair loss treatments isn’t enough to get you to […]
Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) should be considered permanent. If you want a temporary solution, I would suggest you research topical camouflage products such as DermMatch or Toppik.
We have not performed SMP to the nape of the neck. We can grade the size and shade of the pigment to blend so that the nape of the neck will appear finer than the scalp hair. I see no reason why it would not work as long as the haircut can match the buzzcut […]
