I am guessing here, as I have no real experience with Avodart. I would doubt that Proscar will work any better as Avodart is theoretically a much better DHT blocker. However, if you are taking Avodart (or considering Proscar) to regrow your hairline, chances are high that it won’t work for that anyway.

If you take Avodart, there is no point to using Propecia. Be careful about dosing, unless you are under the care of a good doctor.
It’s best to take Propecia when you wake, before breakfast. The empty stomach is best for absorbing 100% of the value of the pill.
To me, thinning hair either represents a change in hair thickness (possibly aging) — something we see when a baby becomes a young child, and then often when a young man takes the turn into puberty –or localized miniaturization in the areas where you notice the hair being not quite as thick as it previously […]
Many steroid users want to protect their hair from loss and steroids are known to increase the hormones and byproduct DHT that promote hair loss. There are more body builders using steroids with hair loss than those who work out but do not use steroids. Many body builders ask me if Propecia will help them […]
The 5 year data from Merck shows that after 5 years, the average patient comes close to his starting point. There is a suggestion that after 5 years he will be worse off than his starting point. This is a bell curve statistic which relates to the average person in the study. You are not […]
They are related drugs, but they are different and do not share the same ingredients.
I can not comment on the hair transplant community as a whole. Maybe after the annual ISHRS convention in October, I will be able to report on a consensus. I had a patient yesterday who reported going from Propecia to Avodart and he did notice a complete loss of libido on the Avodart, something that […]
Sounds like it could be a coincidence. Wait it out and treat your dandruff the way everyone else does.

You should be evaluated by an honest and competent doctor. Depending upon the hair loss and what it looks like, a good doctor can usually predict what will happen to you and build a Master Plan around that. Transplants may be in your future, but there is no substitute for a good doctor/patient relationship. Since […]
At 20, the only drug I’d recommend that you take would be finasteride (Peopecia). In my opinion, if you don’t take it and it is genetic, you will be bald. Be sure that this is genetic balding and then get on that drug before it is too late. Take charge and start treatment now. Do […]
It is certainly not normal to lose THOUSANDS of hairs. The average person has 100,000 hairs on their head, so if you are really losing say 3000 hairs per day, you would have been bald in a month or so, losing 2000 hairs/day would put you at bald in a couple of months, and losing […]
Proscar (5mg finasteride) and Propecia (1mg finasteride) are medications that requires a prescription from a licensed medical doctor in the US. Any medical doctor can prescribe them. The only caveat is that in our practice, we generally like to document the degree of miniaturization of scalp hair with a computer video densitometer to quantify and […]
You should consult with your doctor who prescribed you Propecia to address these issues. There are medications to counter abnormal breast enlargement, but I have not personally used them to treat my patients. Most men who have breast lumps from Propecia (about one in 500 users) stop taking the medication. The interesting part about your […]
