The recommended Propecia dosage is one tablet once a day. Some doctors may prescribe half a tablet once a day or one tablet every other day, however these are not the official recommended dosages. One reason is that official clinical research has found that the once a day dosing gave the maximum benefit from male […]

Steroids, especially anabolic steroids (the kind bodybuilders use), may cause hair loss. Unfortunately for reasons not clearly understood, once you start losing hair it seems to continue as if a “switch” has been turned on. Finally, the hair loss you are noticing may just be your natural course of hair loss indendent of Rogaine or […]
Your report of an increased sex drive is a well known side effect of Propecia (most people seem more concerned and worried about the decreased sex drive which occurs in 1/100 to 1/200 patients). Men generally get an increased testosterone level of about 18% on Propecia in the initial month or so. This often returns […]
Other men, older and wiser than you, have come to me almost in tears about the same experience they had when they stopped using Propecia and experienced an accerated hair loss. Usually, they stopped for longer than a month. In theory, the drug should remain in the hair follicles to some level up to a […]
Propecia does not decrease testosterone. It decreases the byproduct of testosterone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is what is implicated in male pattern hair loss. Taking Propecia increases testosterone by about 15% and benefit (although not proven) muscle building. Propecia can also apparently be used to mask muscle enhancers. You may recall from the recent […]
The studies that show the benefits of Propecia used in Merck’s material are the results of well controlled and audited scientific studies, some of them done under FDA guidance. I would trust official Propecia photographs from Merck, but I would not trust many of the commercial photographs that are produced just to ‘prove’ that the […]
Divide the term follicular neogenesis into three words and you get: Neo: New Follicular: Refers to hair unit of growth Genesis: A biblical term suggesting source, creation, derivation of something, birth, the beginning or origin Put them all together and you get a new technology — or at least the name of one. Sounds like […]
Propecia, hair loss, penis detachment, orgasm, ejaculation… OH MY! From the tone of your writing, I can see that you are very concerned about hair loss and sex. Worry not, for I would say you are like most men. If you obsess over something like your hair loss and image, you can produce impotence. Your […]
I think that you misunderstood what I was talking about (see Regrowth – Phase II FDA Hair Loss Study Results for Dutasteride). Each of us is the same with regard to the way these drugs work on us, so you don’t need to check yourself out to categorize yourself (as you asked). Dutasteride is more […]
What you are talking about is as much science as speculation. From what I have learned from doctors who use dutasteride in those patients who do not respond to finasteride (Propecia), the report is that it is stronger and more effective. I have addressed the scalp testosterone levels with dutasteride before here. More insights may […]
Assuming that you have benefits from the Rogaine, you should assume that your hair is minoxidil dependent. That means that if you stop the minoxidil, the hair may fall out. Propecia will not prevent this phenemonon. I would suggest that you stay on the Rogaine and get your hair mapped out for miniaturization before starting […]
If you just starting to lose the hair in the crown (meaning that it is now noticeable), there is a good chance that Propecia will reverse some or all of it. Recent hair loss (2 years or less) is most susceptible to reversal. I would suggest not stopping the Minoxidil, as your hair is almost […]
See Dr. Reddy’s launches generic Proscar in U.S.. Yes, Proscar (brand name of 5mg finasteride) has gone generic. Propecia (brand name of 1mg finasteride) is still not available in the generic form in the US. Some patients take Proscar and break the pill in 1/5 or 1/4 in place of Propecia because it costs less. […]
I do not have direct knowledge of this. It would be best to take the drug at the prescribed 1 mg dose (Propecia) rather than cutting the 5mg dose, but many people who switch from the 1mg dose to the 5mg dose (cutting the tablet into quarters) tell me that they get the same benefits. […]
You can not dictate timelines to your hair. Six weeks may be far too short a period to expect changes. Think more like many months and even up to a year or two to get the benefits of Propecia or minoxidil.
