Toprol-XL is in a class of blood pressure medications (beta blockers) which, amongst other side effects, include hair loss. With women it is reversible, but in men it may accelerate genetic hair loss and may not be reversible.
I am a 22 year old male and have been taking Toprol for a couple years, my head is as bald as my fathers. Is there anything I can do to reverse the effects of Toprol?
I have been taking Toprol 200mg for a year and a half. Three days ago, I passed out cold and was rushed to the ER. My temperature was 94.3, blood pressure 86/42. All due to the high dosage I was prescribed of Toprol. Plus, my hair has been falling out in clumps for about the time I’ve been on Toprol. I had to buy a wiglet for the top. I was taken off the Toprol immediately. I’m hoping the hair will regrow and that my posting will help someone else. Ask lots of questions and if you have hypertension, consult a cardiologist. Most internists are not thoroughly trained in the treatment of hypertension and the side effects of the meciations needed to control it. I could have died and thank God there was a knowledgeable cardiologist on call at the hospital. Toprol CAN cause alopecia!!
I have been taking Toprol for a couple of years and recently my doctor increased my dosage. Since he increased the dosage I have been experiencing greater and greater hair loss. I am only 35 and have a hard time accepting the possiblilty of baldness. I think the palpitations of mitral valve prolapse are the lesser of two evils!
