Car Headrest Causing Hair Damage?
I’ve noticed in the past year that the hair in the dead smack middle of my head (tilting toward the back) is very short (3″). I even cut my hair to accommodate, well all my hair has grown back except for that part, it remains a short length. Well I recently noticed that the part that is very short is also exactly where my car headrest supports my head. And its the only spot that rubs up on my hair. So I’m wondering if that’s the mystery thing that’s been causing the middle there to be so much shorter? I started driving the car in the beginning of 2004 and noticed my hair short in spring of 2005, didn’t make any connection at the time just cut my hair. And by spring of 2006 all my hair had grown back instead of that part.
Have you ever heard of the two being related; middle of the head hair damage and the car headrest?
Thanks for any help.
I would doubt that there is a correlation between the two. To get traction alopecia from a car headrest, you would have to spend a great deal of time in the car. If you believe that the two are related, then you should change the headrest, stop using it, or put an ‘airline’ type pillow between your head and your head rest.
Please tell me if the area that you have hair loss is below the notch at the base of the skull in the back of your head. That area is not scalp hair. Neck hair is not permanent hair and sometimes we see this non-permanent hair come out in men of all ages. They look like there is something wrong with the back of the head, appearing like a ‘hole’ in the head. Let me know if is below that notch and send me a good photo, if you can. Put your finger on that notch when taking the photo, so I can get oriented as I look at it.
I read a letter from one of your readers about how her hair refuses to grow right in the middle. Well, I have the same problem, and I don not drive so I cannot claim it is the headrest as she did… I cut my hair twice so that everything would be even. But I ended up with long hair in the front, and right in the middle I have short hair, also about 3 inches, not more. I always good even hair, so this is driving me insane to the point I cry in the shower… Do you know what may be causing this patchy growth?
