Hi There-
I’m a 22 year old male with a mature adult hairline. When I started thinning in the back, I started taking propecia (14 months ago). It seemed to stop the hair loss in back, and even regrow some. My concern is the mature hairline. I would love to have it filled in. Being a soldier (on my second deployment now) means I always have to have at the most a high and tight, if not completely shaved. Anyways, I am extremely self conscious about it. I will be 23 when I get home, is a transplant for the frontal hairline an option? My father is bald, but my Grandpa on that side of my family has most of his hair yet. My mom’s side is not completely bald, but does not have a full set of hair either. For the record, I take predominantly after my moms side of the family. Anyways, I would either like to get a transplant or set up a “master plan.” I’m currently taking Propecia, using Nioxin products, and thinking about that low level laser stuff. I would love to hear your advice. Thanks again.
Yes, the mature hairline can be filled in with transplants. I generally restrict those types of surgeries in people your age, because we really do not know what the balding pattern will be. You do not want a youthful hairline (reversing the mature hairline with transplants) and then be bald behind it. Your hairline would look unnatural. That would be part of the Master Plan that you and your doctor should work out. It will take into account your worst case balding scenario and your donor supply. Keep up the good work and if you make it out to California, plese visit me on your return to the United States.
