I See More Hair Loss Now After 6 Months on Rogaine Than I Have in Past Months
I want to know if it is normal to experience more hair loss during the 6th month of Rogaine use just as I experienced during the first 4 weeks of use which was considerably.
I have been experiencing hair loss since I was 18 (I am 29 now). 3 years ago I starting using products with Minoxidil 5% prescribed by physicians. However it became to expensive. After 5 months of quitting I decided to start using Rogaine due that I was losing more hair as I stopped using those products.
Results after 3 to 4 months of using were really tangible. However, as I said I am on the 6th month and I am experiencing more hair loss from about a couple of weeks ago. I am assuming is part of the hair loss cycle, however I am not sure if Rogaine is no longer working for me. Or what should I expect in the following weeks?
Thanks for the support
I wouldn’t say it’s common to see increased shedding after 6 months of Rogaine use. I’ve heard about shedding after starting the medication, but that shedding shouldn’t reoccur after half a year. The loss could be coincidental to something else going on.
You might want to go back to your prescribing doctor for a follow-up. Since the Rogaine doesn’t actually block DHT (the cause of genetic hair loss in men), you could be experiencing the normal loss you’re genetically determined to have. I really have no way to know. Or you can just ride it out and hope for the best.
rogaine certainly increased the balding process for me. where i used it my hair got worse…now off it for a year things are very similar. I wouldn’t recommend the risk to anyone. Maybe use it only on parts that you could afford to lose in case it does work and not all over.
DO NOT STOP! same thing happened to me at 6 months but i stuck with it and had it all back with gains by month 10
Liquid minoxidil, in concert with propecia, has worked very well for me over the past two years. And the research shows that it works for most men.
I guess there may be a risk that it won’t work for some men. We are in a tough situation. If we don’t do anything we can be pretty certain that our balding will advance. I took the gamble on the treatment with evidence from research studies and it has worked out well for me.
Seems a bit odd to blame minoxidil for balding. It’s probably a lot more likely that your shedding has accelerated by itself(it does seem to have phases where it speeds up and then stops, certainly did for me). Minoxidil worked well for me, even on the front and corner hairline. It’s a messy and irritating solution to getting a bit thicker coverage but when you can see it working to get more hair and thicker hair back, it’s probably worth it over the long term. Though when the real hair loss cure comes out I won’t miss ditching Minoxidil regimen every day!
Has your shedding gotten any better?
