I’ve Always Had a Deep Hairline, But Am I Receding?
Hello Doctor,
I am 21 years old and I have a deep hairline. Ive always had a deep hairline. There are little blond hair in front of it, everywhere.
My question is, does it look like my hair is receding? My father is 53 and has a full head of hair. Both my grandfathers only started loosing their hair when they got “really” old.
Thanks !
I cannot say if you are receding or if you are balding, but based on the photo you sent it looks like you have a Norwood 3 pattern. For certainty, send me a picture with your eyebrows lifted so that I can measure the distance from the highest crease. The V shape hairline that you do show, reflects the mature male hairline.

Looks like a normal mature hairline to me. I dunno if you are thinning on top but don’t think so.
I’d agree looks like a perfectly normal mature hairline. There doesn’t seem to be the erosion anywhere else and the top of the hair looks as consistent as the sides.
OK WELL I MEASURED MY HAIRLINE STARTING FROM THE HIGHEST WRINKLE WHEN I RAISE MY EYEBROWS AND Here’s what I got !
* The middle of my hairline is exactly 1/2 inch away from the middle of the furrowed brow
* The sides of my hairline are both 1 inch away from the furrowed brow
Those measurements sound like it fits exactly into the mature hairline definition. If you recede a lot more, the front erodes or you developed a separate crown balding you might be concerned, but I have to say I think Norwood 3 is unlikely (not that you should take a posters words above a hair surgeons!) but because your head is tilted down in that picture it exaggerates the ‘dome’ of your head. If the hairline is 1/2 inch in the middle and 1 inch at the corners, it’s more like a typical Norwood 2/matured hairline.
