Minoxidil and Collagen?
Hi Dr. Rassman, great blog.
I was wondering, whats your view on the effects of Minoxidil on collagen?
Iv heard a few reports of people experiencing bad skin and increased wrinkles on the face when using Rogain, also there is a paper out which shows Minoxidil does inhibit collagen production.
Thanks
I personally do not believe applying a topical medication on your scalp will cause wrinkles on the face, but we’ve written about this before here. What paper are you referring to? The one I’m aware of is relating to rats, not humans.
If you are concerned about such side effects, speak to your doctor and know that you have a choice to use or not use the product.
Nothing applied topically can effect other areas of skin? What about testosterone creams? They have systemic effects obviously, including skin quality changes. How about Latisse changing eye colour?
I used Minoxidil for a year and was always considered way younger than my age and then all of a sudden added 10 years to my age. People started asking me about the dark circles and how old I looked. I quit and a year later my skin looks way better and my wrinkles/dark circles under eyes have disappeared. It’s not 100% recovered yet as it seems to be a slow process based on skin regeneration cycles. There is definitely something to it. And it wasn’t from leaving it on my pillow. If Minoxidil can cause heart palpitations then obviously it can become systematic. There’s a lot of denial on this from doctors yet anecdotal reports are through the roof. My guess is that certain people are more predisposed to it whether they have larger pores on their scalp or who knows. Anyways, at least it’s reversible but it sure takes time.
