In the News – L’Oreal Invents Liquid To Reawaken Dormant Hair Cells
Snippet from the article:
Scientists at cosmetic company L’Oreal claim to have invented the first product which can actually “reawaken” dormant hair cells and allow them to grow back. It could offer hope to millions affected by male pattern baldness or just the thinning of hair through old age or for medical reasons.
Already demand for the new treatment has seen salons taking thousands of pre-orders even though the recommended three month treatment costs nearly £300.
After 90 days researchers claim that the liquid “Kérastase Densifique”, when applied to the roots, can promote the growth of more than 1500 new hairs.

The real question is whether I should buy stock in L’Oreal. The study they cite saw 101 people over 3 months with some regrowth, but I have no idea how many people were actually in the study or why it lasted only 3 months. As more news becomes available we’ll look into it further.
This seems to me to be equivalent to L’oreal Neogenics which was launched in Sept/Oct 2012 and i have been using since Oct 2012 and every day since. My conclusion has been that it has re-awakened some sleeping follicles as they claim but it largely the areas close to the horseshoe area and the quality of the hair grown back is prety poor – it wont give flowing locks again and they dont claim it will..Read their study carefully and think about what they are not telling you as much as what they are!!!!…
Let’s see the study results published in a scientific journal, where it can be critically evaluated, rather than skimpy details on a company web site. Unfortunately, the former requires real, robust results that meet current scientific standards – the latter requires nothing other than a marketing department.
Something doesn’t seem right here – this would be major news if they found a way to “reverse baldness”…
“The Kérastase Densifique cream, which costs $450 for a three-month treatment, is applied to the hair daily.
Kérastase Densifique, which has been hailed as a major breakthrough, stimulates the scalp to wake up dormant follicles
It is put into damp or dry hair using an applicator and then massaged into the scalp.
L’Oreal, which developed the hair treatment in its hair laboratory in Paris, claims that it is clinically proven to be effective for both men and women.
In a study, 101 people who used the product once a day for three months found a 4% increase in the number of hairs they had, which represent an average of 1,700 new hairs.”
…makes it sounds like a three-month treatment is all one needs, but how can that be? Otherwise, it’s $1800 a year to put goopy cream on your head…
Good luck to them, but I’m not holding my breath…
If anyone can explain to me what the difference is between this Kerastase Densifique and L’oreal Neogenics, i would appreciate it. Isn’t it the same company. Both products lay claim to the same study (101 people, 1700 new hairs). Neogenics came out last October and Densifique is just out now. Something fishy going on here!!
Has anyone that’s used Densifique or Neogenics had decent results with thinning/ thin hair? I’m not expecting any regroth but if it can thicken up the crown this might be something worth looking into.
