I’m 16 Years Old and Feel That Masturbation is Causing My Hair Loss
I am 16 years old and i m experiencing heavy hair loss… I have been masturbating for 4 years, every 2-3 days and i feel that masturbating is the reason for my hair loss. I also have a few pimples on my head after i masturbate, but i use a ointment Ecodex-G and the pimples disappear in a few days.
Please tell me if this hair loss is due to heavy masturbating,, and is it possible to regrow these hairs if i stop masturbating for a long span of time (2-3 months), and if not then what is the problem and the solution for it.
I only seem to get these questions from young men in India, which leads me to believe that it is a widely accepted myth in that region.
Masturbation and hair loss are unrelated. I’ve answered this question countless times and the answer doesn’t change. If curing hair loss was as simple as not masturbating, there would be a lot less balding men in the world. Of course, you are free to not masturbate and test for yourself, but it will make no difference in whether your hair grows or not.
True a lot of people ask this question. Dr. Rassman, is it possible that masturbation can cause hairloss in those that are only genetically predisposed to hairloss? From researching online a lot things I have read is that masturbation increase prolactin levels, and doesn’t prolactin lead to more DHT? My theory is that maybe in those people that have the genes for hairloss, masturbation can speed up the process? Ive tried abstaining, and when I do I lose less hair, when I don’t abstain I tend to lose more hair. This can all be a coincidence or a placebo affect, but it makes you think. Once a week masturbation is ok. but over doing it might be bad
Think about it, if there WAS a corelation, then 99.8% of men in the world would be bald!
yes but not every man in the world has the genes for hairloss.
Eli – prolactin is an anti-androgen – it’s often ordered as a test in men with low testosterone as an alternative hormonal explanation for reduced libido and other conditions. It really doesn’t impact hair loss in males – although if it did it’d logically reduce hairloss.
The spike from prolactin which causes satisfaction after ejaculating reduces quite rapidly otherwise men would only have a desire for sex very infrequently. Even if you masturbated 6-10 times per day you’d never raise prolactin levels enough to have a long term impact on your hormonal production cycle. This is partly where the myth about not having sex the night before a big game for athletes came about. Sure having sex or masturbating right before you go out to the field might be a bad idea but your androgen levels have recovered sufficiently by the next morning (hence why so many men are ready for sex again) though this is as much to do with dopamine and other brain chemicals.
Many men take DHT related steroids to counteract prolactin levels. I think the rash of emails to Dr Rassman are more likely to do with bad education around sexual health and old wives tales not being challenged.
I know you’ve disputed it after speaking to some other doctors but if stress does contribute to hair loss than regular masturbation/sex would actually lower stress levels and prevent hair loss. So I think we’re all safe ;)
you make good points Paul, and does make sense. I didn’t know prolactin was an anti androgen. By the way in terms of stress and hairloss, from asking Docs, and researching I think its the by product of stress that causes hairloss. such as not eating properly, not getting enough nutrients and stuff. When people are stressed they tend to not have good diets, or miss meals, etc which can lead to hairloss
