Is There a Safer Artificial Hair Implant?
I want to know more about ‘artificial hair implants’. i read a few articles on the net, these claim that its much safer now to have artificial hair implants then it was a few years ago. what is your take on this?
Artificial hair implants are not legal in the United States mostly due to safety reasons. I’ve seen horrible scarring from these procedures. I would not recommend having this done, even if new manufacturers claim to be “safer”.
While companies have continued to market use of artificial fibers outside the US, the FDA banned the fibers in 1983 and gave the following reasons: 1) The fibers presented risks of illness or injury due to nonbiocompatibility of the fibers and nonmedical performance of the implant, and 2) The fibers presented fraud due to: spreading of deceptive information on the efficacy of result, inadequate information on risks deriving from implant, and they did not show any benefit for public health. Side effects associated with this use included: recurrent infections, rejection and periodic loss of fibers needing frequent replacement, frequent allergic reactions leading to severe contact dermatitis, irritant effects, fears about possible carcinogenicity, cicatricial alopecia, granulomatous hypersensitivity, and cyst formation.
