What Would Happen If I Only Take Half The Dose of Propecia For Hair Loss
Doc, after years on propecia I reduced the dosage due to sides. Obviously you can’t predict my situation, but what has been your clinical observations in patients who after years of use reduced Propecia dosage due to sides. I’d expect 1mg to .5mg to be the usual reduction. Did your patients experience increasedd hair loss?
BTW after 2 to 3 weeks I chickened out and went back to my regular dosage. Any guess What a 2 to 3 week reduction might do?
It is always a good idea to keep your doctor informed about your side effects and changes to the medications you are taking. It has been reported that half dose of Propecia should be 70 to 80% as effective as the full dose.
About a year ago, after 13 years on 1 mg per day, I dropped my dosage to 0.25 mg in response to perceived sides (slightly reduced libido), and a lack of morning wood (I missed the wood!). I seem to have maintained my hair at the lower dose over 12 months, and the sides resolved. I haven’t had any shedding (I rarely notice any stray hairs). My morning wood has also returned. I’m nearly 49.
I’ve also dropped my dosage to .25mg and have had decent success. I was taking apprx. 1mg of Proscar (5mg pill split into 4) daily for 5 years and the results were amazing, so much so that lots of people thought I got a transplant. I freaked out a little once all the horror stories about irreversible side effects started making the rounds, so I took a year off completely. Not surprisingly, I started losing hair again.
The .25mg dosage seems to be right for me. I get morning wood, sex drive is through the roof. Growth isn’t as good as 1mg, but that’s fine by me. I’m 36, married, in great shape. My main goal when I started the drug was to hold on to my hair until I was at least 35. Mission accomplished.
