Bumps on Scalp — Dermatologist Said It Was the Hair Follicles
Hi, I am a female and recently I have been experiencing these bumps on my head and they don’t itch, its just that I know they are there and I want them to go away and so i pick at them and pull the hairs inside the bump out. I am on Adderall for ADHD/ADD and I was wondering if that could have anything to do with this bumps. Also I am wondering if you know what these bumps could be. I also highlight my hair, and I am wondering if you think I might be allergic to the dye or if i could be allergic to the color shampoo I use. I have been to a dermotoligist and she said it had something to do with hair follicles. Thanks for your time!
You did not ask your dermatologist the right questions. Go back to her. If she said that the bumps were hair follicles, then you might have an infection (folliculitis) which she should have treated you for. I really can not tell what is happening to you, but I would be pleased to see you at no charge and give you an opinion if you wanted to come out to my offices in California. Whatever you do, stop picking on it and stay away from the hair dye that you are using to minimize the things it could be.
I am a 61 year old black female. I have very short fuzz and gray hair on my right temple that just won’t grow out anymore.
I take veralan and gout medication(allopurinol-300mg)one x per day. My hair is doing great elsewhere except the temple part. Now I do lay on this side of my head consistently. This problem started around 2 years ago around the time I started on the veralan for hbp and then about a year later, I starte on allopurinol. I did read that both meds can cause hair loss, but if so, why in one area? HELP (in reference to Dec. 11, 2006
We get this question about 30 times per day and the answers are typically one of three including folliculitis as well as scalp acne that is usually very mild and can be handled with Purify Shampoo or allergic reaction to either fragrance in your shampoo or to the surfactant (high amounts in drug store shampoos – we definitely suggest using a salon product)
The best thing to do for the first two is to deep cleanse and detoxify – if it is folliculitis your dermatologist should have picked up on that and most of customers find that it typically itches if left untreated. If you are not getting an itch then we suggest trying a purifying shampoo to help remove the oils and bacteria from the follicles. 90% of the time that takes care of the problem and we never hear from those customers again about this problem – it is solved.
This is in response to the First original comment from the girl,
I have the EXCALT SAME probelm, the bumps don’t itch but they bother me that they are there, they feel like small air bubbles. Please contact me or post a reply and let me know if you found relief for your probelm

I am a 29 yr old mom of 2. My son and daughter have the same problem but I cannot tell what it is. My son had alot of bumps and sores on his scalp and it was bothering him alot but i due time his cleared. That was about 3-4 yrs ago. Now my daughter who will be 5 next month has started getting this grainy pusy looking sores in her head and they bother her alot. My husband has tried washing her hair with head and shoulders, it went away for a couple of days but it came back and there were more bumps and it hurts her more now. Is there a way I can get rid of this and can you try to diagnoise this problem. Thank you.
Try using T-Gel Shampoo or a shampoo with Tar in it. You can find these types of shapoos at most drug stores like Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and CVS. You should see your scalp clear up in about 3 weeks after using the medicated shampoo.
