Sometime a major stressful event (such as malaria) can trigger hair loss, but the hair usually grows back within a year. You may also have male pattern hair loss (even if it does not run in your family history) There is no way to tell you what is causing your hair loss without a physical exam, detailed history, and miniaturization study. The medication (artesunate) for treating malaria is known to cause hair loss.
