Is My Son Losing Hair from LSD or MDMA Use?
Hello
My son is 21, he believes that his hair is thinning at the crown and at the hairline. He has also been complaining about an itching, tingling, burning sensation on the top of his head. I personally do not think that it is thinning as both sides of the family have a long line of full heads of hair. He has a long history of depression and chronic anxiety, he is also a hypochondriac. However about a year ago i discovered that he had taken large amounts of estradiol, in the form of my estrogel, a month or so prior to me discovering it missing. He stopped after i confronted him about it. Approximately six months later he took LSD while at a friends, then he took MDMA, overdosed and had a seizure. My question is could his hairloss be due to either of these? I am very concerned about him, he has always been depressed and lossing his hair would be a huge blow on his self esteem.
I can understand young men experimenting with drugs, as illegal and harmful as they may be, but it is strange that a young man would knowingly be taking female hormones. Does he have gender identification issues?
Hair loss can be a source for depression for many young men, but I would be less concerned about your son’s hair loss when there are potential life threating issues such as: depression, anxiety, illicit drug abuse, seizures, etc. Your son sounds like he needs help and I do not think hair loss ranks near the top of the list.
i hope this comment is read.
i was going around the internet, researching all kinds of hair loss primarily brought upon by the abuse of certain recreational drugs.
anyway, advice for the parent concerned about his/her son: he was most likely reaching for the female hormones because they are known to counteract the negative effects created by the introduction of THC into the system. That is, he most likely smokes pot, suffers from the hair-loss that the pot creates in him (the hair loss, which, among other causes, is created by an imbalance in hormones), and then attempts to override the hormone imbalance by introducing an artificial abundance of female hormones.
this doctor does not answer your question well at all.
LSD is known to lead to hair loss as well. though not by creating an imbalance of hormones.
advise your son to introduce a regular exercise into his habit, a healthy diet, and the immediate stop of drug use.
i am a teenage boy as well and certainly know that hair loss is quite a large problem, and more than probably a prime source for his depression. please do not listen to this doctor he conducts his answer like a doctor from 1890. advise your son to follow a healthier lifestyle and to quit drug-use.
hair regrowth is certainly possible at this stage (illicit drug-use and a possibly unhealthy lifestyle) and there have been numerous studies proving this.
“LSD is known to lead to hair loss as well. though not by creating an imbalance of hormones.”
Any resources for that? There’s no evidence of that at all, though high doses of LSD (just one hit is a high dose) can deplete energy leading to high cortisol. Like in zebrafish (Characterization of behavioral and endocrine effects of LSD on zebrafish). This could potentially worsen your problems, but I think very low doses of LSD (up to 20mcg) can actually be quite good to prevent hair loss.
If anything is causing hair loss here, it’s the estradiol. Why in the world does he use that???
I’ve been suspicious of Hallucinogens causing hair lose, well especially with habitual pot smoking. I’ve seen no evidence anywhere to support this but then again there is such a lack of research and understanding of these drugs. Ive experianced many effects from these kinds of drugs over the years that i’ve never heard of before, particularly hallucinogens.
With the hair lose though it is most likely stress directly that causes it. I think something such as LSD can make you realize things about yourself and your life and is more then capible of creating enough stress that you can have this kind of hair lose at his age. I’ve experinced the exact same thing. The depression anxiety just go with hairlose, as well as a whole boatload of bad health problems.
i dont believe those drugs would cause hair loss but it is a depressing experience as there are alot of gimmicks as to treating it. he should look into natural remedies i suggest using fo ti root it is by far the best natural remedy there is today
i don’t believe marijuana causes hair loss it could for some people i guess anxiety can though. i know quite of a few who have smoked all their life and have a great hairline and thick hair.
