Fluocinonide Topical Prescribed for Female Hair Loss?
Hello Dr.(40 year old African American female) I was told on the 8th of Jan 08 by a Dermatologist in a county hospital that I have scaring in the crown of my head and very few follicles left because of the way African-American women process their hair, and then as he exits the room he says, there’s nothing we can do. A more sympathetic intern stayed behind and offered to prescribe Fluocinonide Topical Solution USP,0.05% 60ml,will this have any benefit at all? and am I a candidate for anything else transplant or otherwise. P.S., know any good specialist in Houston, TX.?
Fluocinonide is a potent steroid medication and I do not like to second guess another doctor’s recommendation. You should probe your doctor’s opinion on just what benefit he expects to see and over what period of time. My personal feeling is that it is sometimes more difficult for a doctor to do nothing — and sometimes when a doctor feels compelled to do something, medications prescribed may have little or no value. I do not have recommendations in TX at this time.
I am intereste in knowing how the fluocinonide topical worked for you as it was prescribed for me today. It appears I am having the same issues. My doctor seems to think it is from the anesthesia from a surgery I had 3 months ago.
Can I use this fluocinonide topical solution 0.05% 60 ml for my scalp.I believe it is what was precribed for me thnks
Walton,
If you were prescribed fluocinonide, please talk to your prescribing doctor about it. I have no idea why you were prescribed the medication (what are you treating?) and can’t give you application directions.
I use that and protopic, ii was 75% bald. I first got the injection then after it started growing back i used the protopic then now the flucinonide soln. I have not a relaxer or color on my hair since 2002 and i have a full head of hair. I’m in houston so the first derm i went to was debra chernosky, shes good but she does not accept alot of insurance. now i go to dr. mays a ut physician since that’s what my insurance covers. I took control of my hair and yes i had derms that were like “nothing we can do” they were very rude and insensitive and maybe racist. if you need anymore info let me know.
I have only been using fluocinonide0.05% for about two weeks and already I see hair growing in to fill in the spaces;I actually have a full head of hair,my top was 45%bald,I too am a nAfrican-American that hasnatural hair and have been natural since2007
I am a 55 year old African American female. I started using Fluocinonide three months ago. My doctor at Mayo Clinic prescribed a solution of 0.05%. I suffer from alopecia on the crown and patchy hair loss
on the back of my head. My doctor prescribed this solution for the bald spot because my scalp biopsy was inconclusive for scarring alopecia. I started using Floucinoide three months ago on the bald spot on the back, and I am happy to report the bald spot is no longer there. I will now call my doctor to ask if it can be used on the crown. However, I do have concerns about using a steroid for long periods of time.
My doctor prescribed fluoxnonide I bein using for 3 weeks and I don’t have any results yet, can you please tell me how long it took you to see your results thank you
I am 28 and my hair has always been thin but each individual strand is getting thinner and thinner and it is now falling out profusely my derm has also prescribed me the fluocinonide but I feel like massaging this into my scalp is causing my hair to fall out more. I am on a fixed income and do not have money for expensive treatments please give me some advice
Sarah I’m bald and had I got answers years ago it could have been saved from being such a large area. I finally find a derm in Indiana that is helping me he prescribe this med for me along with the injections.
For you I would try biotin or hairfinity
not bald but balding
I started using the Fluocinonide on June 30, really hoping it works for me…I will give you an update in 2 weeks. I’m some what worried about the side effects of using a steroid, though. Just happy to see there is support out here and I’m not the only one out here going through this…thanks guys.
@ Michelle, it’s been since 2009 since you’ve been on here, are you able to give an up date on your hair now, I would like to go to the same derm in Houston that you went to too also get my hair to really grow back…will you email me it possible. thanks
I am a black African female I have been using Fluocinonide for the last 2 weeks. I no longer see the dry scape, but I need to know would it be ok for me to get a perm. I wasn’t sure if there would be a chemical reaction if I did this. Do anyone know.
@ Adrienne. How often was Fluocinonide used at 0.05? Was it once a day or twice a day or more?
My hair has become very thin in the back. Last week my dermatologist, Dr. Yolanda Lenzy in MA prescribed Fluocininide ointment 0.5%. I am to use it 3 times a week on any area affected by alopecia.
