Thanks Dr. I know it is secured at day 10, but are the follicles still week? Could I have killed them from lack of sleep/nutrition and smoking/drinking? Hair transplants are very resilient. They survive even if you haven’t slept for days. Just don’t pick them out in the first 10 days.

Can smoking mitigate the effects of Minoxidil since min is a vasodilator and tobacco/nicotine is a vasoconstrictor? I know there was a study in Taiwan that showed hair loss was more common in smokers, though this was only with men who had a pack a day which most smokers don’t have. Also was told by […]
In a 2009 article written by Dr. David Perez-Meza reflecting upon Dr. Tony Mangubat’s two cases of problems following a hair transplant, the connection between smoking and complications from a hair transplant or any plastic surgery to the face, is significant (see attached article below). Still a other article mirrors these claims: J Surg Res. […]

I don’t have a clue. If you plan on being the test subject, you should discuss your plans with your surgeon.
Smoking may be deleterious to graft growth and your health, so I would always advise against it. Finasteride (Propecia) is a lifelong medication and generally people start taking it before the surgery as recommended by their doctors. The need for Propecia reflects your risk for accelerated balding. This is a judgment call based upon the […]
