African American Dermatologist?
Is there a way to find a national listing of African-American dermatologists? I am especially interested in those that deal with hair loss in the african-american female.
Thank you.
I don’t believe that you need to have an ‘ethnic’ doctor to understand the nuances of African-American hair loss. It will be far more valuable for you to indentify a good dermatologist or hair doctor who has a specific interest in hair loss. Some of these can be found on the physician search at ISHRS.org, or American Academy of Dermatology. There are many causes for female hair loss, such as braiding (dreadlocks), hypothyroidism, iron deficiency, malnutrition, stress, hormone imbalance, contraception, high blood pressure medication, warfarin, eczema, psoriasis and other inflammatory disease. These diagnoses and other causes for hair loss are general people/female problems, not specifically African-American ones.
I have been on warfarin for 6 months. My treatment ended in June. My hair has become very thin and lifeless. What can I do to strengthen my hair….or will I lose it all possibly because of this medication?

Hello, I am looking for a African American Dermatologist in NYC area. Could you please provide me with a few leads? I would like for one, to accept my insurance carrier. Thanks in advance.
Contact Dr. Amy McMichael at Wake Forest School of Dermatology, Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She is African American, very interested in hair problems and solutions for African American women. Dr. McMichael also conducts research, serves in a teaching capacity, and is very compassionate. I know at one time she had scheduled Mondays as the only day when she addressed hair issues.

I am looking for an African American Dermatologist in Charlotte NC. Will someone please help me!!!
I currently have an appointment with Dr. Amy McMichael in Winston-Salem, a referral from my current dermatologist in Chapel Hill. With the back log and high demand, my appointment is not until September. Also, I believe you need to be recommended/a contact from your dermatologist to get on her calendar.
I DO NOT recommend Dr. Lacartia Best (Greenbelt,MD) at all. She did nothing to help with my acne. After waiting for 10 mins to see her, she looked at my skin and wrote a perscribtion for Tazorac. This was done in less than 5 mins. She was impatient and seemed like she did not want to take the time to answer my questions.
I completely disagree!
