After 3 Months on Propecia, My Hair is Oily
I am a 24 year old male, and have experienced mild hair loss for the past 2 years or so, mostly in the temple region. However, the rate of hair loss has significantly increased in the last 8 or 9 months, and has expanded to the entire top of the head. The front is now very thin, and my scalp is plainly visible all over when the hair is wet. I began taking Propecia 3 months ago, and have not noticed any slowdown in the rate of hairloss. What I have noticed recently, is that my hair has become very oily (it has never been very oily before), and mild acne is beginning to form at the hairline.
So my two questions are:
1) Is the increased rate of hair loss, and sudden expanded hair loss region normal?
2) Is the oily hair and/or acne side effect of Propecia? Normal symptoms of hair loss? Or something else? Thanks a lot for your great blog!
These are questions for your doctor. Remember, you’re asking about a prescription medication. You should pose questions about this sort of thing with your prescribing doctor.
In my experience, what you are reporting for the first three months with regard to seeing a benefit on Propecia is usual as it takes almost a year to see value. With regard to the oily nature that you are reporting, I have not seen this reported by my patients.
That’s funny you mention that….it’s dht that causes acne..not testosterone.
I had major acne….I’m talking big ole zits!
After being on Proscar for about 2months….it was gone. And it has never returned..except once when I wasn’t making too much money so I had to budget my cash and I went off dht blocker for about 3months….major hair shed and acne popping up all over my face again. Got back on it and again..all gone.
DHT is responsible for a lot of diseases in men, such as heart aches, hardening of the arteries, acne, BPH, prostate cancer.
I see no problem in blocking it, which is what I have done for the last 20yrs.
Sorry it didn\’t work out for you Eli..but you are in the very very small minority.
Mike!
by the way lazerfish. You have been blocking DHT for the last 20 years? So when proscar was released for BPH in 1992 you started taking it for hairloss right away? Assuming you were in your early 20’s around that time. Even though nothing was proven for hairloss at that time with finasteride, your doctor prescribed a prostate drug for you at the age. LOL
ignore my 4th comment lazerfih. I just read that you blocked with proscar for 14 years, then hopped onto avodart. how old were you when you started DHT blocking?
funny how my comments are being deleted here. LOL This is the second reply just got deleted. Why delete the truth LOL
Its funny how things pro finasterid remain up, but anything against it gets deleted. Not really fair and ethical. But then again merck probably controls this website
LOL sorry again. my topics got displayed. Whats going on with the site. they get deleted and put of again. sorry for my cooments
