Any New Opinions on Creatine and Hair Loss?
Hello Dr. Rassman,
Through the search feature on the site, I have read about previous questions that asked about creatine and hair loss. It seems like you addressed the topic of increasing DHT being a potential issue, however, you seemed to believe that it didn’t have a direct correlation as shown in this question here (link).
My question is, do you have any new knowledge, updates or opinions on creatine and hair loss? Any information would help, as the last time this topic was discussed seemed to be at least 3 years ago.
Thanks!
I have no new knowledge or opinions on creatine. I personally do no think it affects hair, but I am sure you can find plenty of sites that say different. If it worries you enough, then maybe you should take a conservative approach.
Honestly mate I love creatine works really well unfortunately in my case there’s a lot of mpb in the family, I’ve taken it for about 2 years and have noticed a difference if my hair line. If your worried about your hair just don’t take it but I doubt it’ll affect you unless your prone to mpb anyway in which case it just speeds it up
Surprisingly nobody seems to have followed up the one study that suggested a possible link. Creatine is not primarily used or designed to increase androgens (if it did it would likely fall foul of the FDA’s approach on pro hormones anyway). The likeliest link is that men using steroids/testosterone boosters/performing heavy weights will also be creatine users.
Personally having run hormone blood panels whilst taking creatine mono hydrate I have not seen any testosterone/DHT increases above baseline but then that’s not a scientific study with enough participants to be valid research. It was for my own peace of mind.
