Bald Spots in Beard
I recently started getting bald spots in my beard. My guess would be due to bad dieting cause I have a full head of hair and my dad’s beard is still very full at 62. I just pray you can give me some info about how to get this spots to regrow in, cause I love wearing a beard. Thanx for your time!!!
Bald spots appearing in any hair bearing area may point to alopecia areata. A biopsy done in the hands of a good dermatologist is critical in ruling out this problem. I would recommend that you see a dermatologist, and have them take a look at all of your hair bearing areas, first and foremost. Beyond this suggestion, it is hard to diagnose what the problem may be through the Internet, especially having never seen you.
Yes, the information you’ve got here is spot on. Have a talk with a dermatologist who will be able to correctly diagnose the condition. I believe its most likely to be Alopecia Barbie ( Hair Loss of the beard ). Its a condition that can occur on its own but commonly develops on from Alopecia Areata, Totalis or Universalis. I have it myself at the moment and my hair loss started with Alopecia Areata.
Your dermatologist could well recommend a course of steroid injections into the affected areas and this can have a success rate of up to 70% so stay positive.

hi, im 16yrs old and i’ve had alopeica areata since the age of 12. I was wondering if i will ever be cured and whether my hair will go back to the way it was before this occured. Is there a cause and if so is stress one of them? Currently i stopped putting the injections and im trying acupuncture. Is this a better way to go? Thanks for your time and hopefully you can answer my questions.
i hade 2 bald spots that started last year now i have most of my beard gone and 2 big circles in my hair and one little one i dont have money to see a doctor some people say it may be a thyroid problem or alopica but the alopica itches when you have it and mine doesn’t please help me.
I also have been getting bald spots on my beard, they start of small then start growing and spreading, the affected area’s are hairless like the skin of a baby except that if u look really close you can see small hairs wiht no pigmintation. I would go to a dermotologist except that it cost $200-300 dollars and i wont’ have that money any time soon. What can i do and what do you think that problem MIGHT be.
carlos, i have the same thing, ever find the problem?
I have the same thing as well Carlos. It started with me about 6-8 months ago. It kind of has me worried, because it could be an auto-immune disease. There are a number of auto-immune diseases and things that can cause irregular immune characteristics. One in particular that has me concerned. I heard stress and certain hereditary genes can cause it. But more seriously, Diabetes and HIV infection can cause it too. I just don’t know and the only thing it looks like I can do is to get everything tested.
Hey Carlos – I am also having the same condition as yours…..did you find what’s going on?
I recently have the same problem. About a month ago I noticed a quarter sized patch of missing hair on my chin.
Interestingly enough I started taking Crestor about the same time.
I read it can cause hair loss and I’m hoping that is the reason.
Has anyone had this problem with Crestor or statins?
Once the baldness starts will it stop if I stop the meds and that is the cause? Or is Alopecia like diabetes and once you get it- you always have it?

Hi Guys,
I have the same problem only in my beard. I have some round spots forming in my beard. It started with a small circle in the bottom of my beard and now spreading upwards and right and left. I was concerned but after reading about it, I am not so concerned. Rather than taking steroids, I would prefer to stay clean shaven. All I hope is that it doesn’t spread over to my scalp :-(.
Hi Folks,
I am 32 years old. I 2 weeks before I noticed half inch bald patch on my cheek where I found no beard. I have no idea unless and until I visited this place.
I am planning to visit dermatologist, but very unhappy to see there is no proven medicine for this. I will give it a try what ever dermatologist will suggest, after that I will go for Homeopathy.
Please anybody here, tried any Homeopathy or Ayurbeda medicince and find working. Please post.

I had the same problem tow years ago. I had consulted with a dermatologist. He said it’s because of tension. he gave me some medicine to reduce the stress and a lotion. All my spots became normal in 20 days. But now I have got the same problem started last month. I have visited the same Dr and he repeated the same answer. I believe it’s only because of stress ( tension ). so be cool. everything will be all right
I have the same exact issue… 6 months ago, I noticed in beard a few hairs that were really thin and with no coloration, forming a bald spot (since the hairs are so thin and without any color, that it looks as if there were no hair at all). This Spot has been getting bigger ever since, now it is a bit bigger that a quarter. I have an appointment with a dermatologist in 2 weeks. Hope this can ve reveresed.
In the mean time I’ve discovered a cosmetic solution. I just appply WOMEN’S MASCARA on the bald spot, and since I still have hair (eventhough is very very thin) the mascara colors it and you can’t tell the difference.
Hi everyone. I’m 31 and developed a bald spot in my beard a few years ago. Went to a dermatologist and got steroid cream, which after 8+ months worked. I was fine for about a year then I developed several spots on my neck, chin and even moustache. Very annoying. Nearly lost all hair on my neck. After much experimentation and elimination, I believe the cause has been mens multi vitamins. Everytime I take one I seem to wake up with a new bald spot that continues to grow. Easy solution – stop taking multi-vitamins. Yes, but I do want my hair to return and I also am very curious what within the vitamins has triggered such a response. Anyone else taking multi-vitamins getting alopecia?
I to have this problem on & off for 6 years now.. more oftenthan not I have at least 1 bald patch on my beard. they come and go, but I cannot pin them down to one cause. I take multi-vit’s too, on & off. My guess is that it will be something in our diet…. GMO, or other man-modified frankenstein food. Possibly used for vitamin source as well.
Would love to have time/$$$/ and commitment to eat strict organic, non- GMO, raw diet for a few months to see if that clears it.. Give it a go, any one that can. :)
Hello everyone! I am 30 years old and also have two bald patches in my already very sparse, uneven beard. I’m not fully sure but I have a theory as to a few things that may cause it. These are: 1) Some beard hairs are NOT as sensitive to DHT as most others, thus creating a small “bald” patch. Where there is a bald patch, there is STILL microscopic vellus hairs growing there, which have not been “activated” by DHT hormone at the androgen receptor of the hair follicles. 2) Possibility of TOO MUCH Zinc in the diet. YES, TOO MUCH ZINC!!! Zinc increases overall testosterone within the body at the expense of directly INHIBITING DHT formation at the androgen receptors of the androgen hair follicle base (beard hair). While Zinc increases overall testosterone levels, it simultaneously BLOCKS the conversion of T into DHT. It is DHT that creates androgenic hair growth, not “free” testosterone levels!!! Multi vitamins that contain Zinc minerals may be blocking DHT conversion and inhibiting it’s binding to the androgen hair follicle!!!!!
