Bioidentical Hormones in Women
I started using bioidentical hormones in September of 2004. I started noticing hair loss and did some research and found that DHEA and Testosterone can result in hair loss. I removed these but my hair is still not growning back. I am currently taking progesterone and biest in cream form. I tried taking Selenium and thyrostin and that didn’t help either. I am at a loss of what to do, can you help me. I am devastated about this hair loss.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy includes such compounds as progesterone, estrogen, estriol, estradiol, testosterone, dhea, etc. I would assume from your question that you are post-menopausal. If that is correct and you have the genetic form of female hair loss without any medical cause, then it is highly likely that the trigger for the process has been ‘pulled’. Like a bullet from a gun, once the trigger is pulled, you can not call the bullet back. You need a thorough examination with a doctor skilled in quantifying miniaturization and the distribution of miniaturized hairs. Also, you will have to be evaluated with your complaint clearly outlined and understood. With that information, there might be some hope in the transplant arena, limited by the supply quality and quantity, and the size of the areas of need. You also need a good endocrinologist or gynecologist to ascertain hormone balances. I fully appreciate the traumatic impact of hair loss on women, but there is much I do not know about your unique situation. There is no substitute for a good doctor / patient relationship as a starting point. Find a good doctor and establish a trusting relationship with him/her.
Try using Nioxin shampoo. It really does work and stops hair loss.
Nioxin shampoo is also a good alternative but if you are using bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, you should see your doctor about it because while hair loss maybe one of the side effects, it’s better to have your doctor recommend some blood tests to determine that the hair loss is not associated with other medical issues.
I too, have just started noticing hair loss about a month ago. Hopefully, my ‘trigger’ hasn’t been pulled and it will come back. I am almost through menopause and I was wondering if the lady who asked this question had any good report about what happened and what she did to resolve her situation. I tried Nioxin for a few shampoos and I do realize that you at first loose more hair, but when combing my hair filled my entire sink (a loss of at least 50 or more hairs)I am stopping the Nioxin for now. I did read that if you have genetic hair loss, that Nioxin is not the way to go. My NP who is monitoring my Bio-Identical meds, said that hormones do this and once I stop, the loss will stop. Let’s just hope she is right. As of now, I will try to get a second opinion (another GYN) and go from there. Good luck to all, I wish you only good health.
Hi all! I too have hair loss, I had a full hysterectomy 14 years ago at the age of 31 and started the biodentical creams just about 3 years ago. My hair has thinned so badly I don’t know what to do. The oral HRT I had been taking quit working and that prompted me to switch to the creams but I am worried that in another couple of months I am going to be completely bald. I too would be curious if any of you who posted on this previously have found out anything else? Hoping you all will see this post…
