Blood Pressure Medication and Hair Loss
Which other BP medications don’t cause hair loss and coughs like Lisinopril does?
Any medication can potentially cause hair loss as one of the side effects. However, the most common cause of hair loss is not due to medications. If you are losing hair you should have doctor who specializes in hair to examine it for signs of miniaturization in specific pattern or distribution. To answer your question more specifically, there are no studies to compare the hair loss effects of a particular blood pressure medicine against another. That is the type of research I would love to see, but a research project that is unlikely to happen. More importantly, you should always consult with your doctor before stopping or changing any medications.
I to am loosing hair drastically all over my head I Just turned 40 I have been on lisinopril for 3 months before that my hair was so thick you needed a brush to comb through it. no one in my family has lost or thinnig hair. Maybe Im one of the 1% that expeirience this side affect. Do all blood pressure meds have this rare side affect.
I am curious too. I have been on Lisinopril for over a year and recently the thinning at the top of my head is becoming more obvious. The rest of my scalp has hair that is still full but it’s the extreme thinning on top. I am a 40something female.
taking bloodpressure meds DEFINATELY causes hair to thin, dry, change, texture, and fall out. Ive been on several different ones including lisinopril over the years. The best advice I can give is to keep trying new ones until you find one that has less of an effect on your hair and talk to your beautician. The lady that does my hair uses special shampoos for me that remove the medicine that can collect on your scalp(it builds up there through the pores when you take the pills)along with deep conditioning treatments and that has helped alot. Whatever type of pills you take, research all the side effects online yourself before you start taking it.
