But I’m Very Gentle With My Scalp…
I am a 24 year old male who began receding at age 18 and thinning at 19, and around age 21 the right front of my scalp became more receded and thinner than the left. I am almost 25 and have begun to accept this process, although hair loss has slowed or stopped considerably since I began taking BOTH Propecia and Rogaine 2 years ago (exception: front center still thinning). However, I have often wondered if my hair loss were unique, and here’s why: I am VERY gentle with my front scalp and temples when I shampoo, and when I dry my hair I dab with the towel instead of rubbing. But based on the amount of hairs that come out easily when I comb my hair, I believe that if i were to vigorously pet/rub my hair forward for only a few minutes, 20, 30, 50, or more hairs would immediately fall to the floor. I have never had the courage to try this, but the way they fall on the keyboard and come out in my baseball hat (which I wear sparingly) has made me believe that if I were nearly as rough as most men are on their hair I would already be bald. Is my situation unique?
No, you are not in a unique position. This is not something that requires gentle combing or brushing. Healthy hair can be brushed without falling out. Get your hair mapped out for miniaturization and find out what your diagnosis is. You might also be developing a mature hair line, something that happens in men between the ages of 18-29.
