What are your thoughts on the recently-release Vichy Neogenic product? It is making some fairly impressive claims. Thanks.

French cosmetics giant L’Oreal is well known for its hair color products, so maybe their marketing clout means more than I can ascertain from the non-scientific material I’ve seen announcing the Neogenic product (see here). I haven’t read any peer-reviewed studies that would convince me the claims are factual, nor would I suggest that this is the hair loss cure we’ve all been waiting for. But they say this is the evolution of their Aminexil hair loss treatment, for what it’s worth.

If the consumer believes the claims are true, then in the free economy it is the consumer’s choice to try the product. Until I can see more, I’ll just remind everyone that my motto has always been buyer beware.

I am 19, Asian, and am balding in a diffuse pattern, mostly in the crown. I’ve been taking Propecia for around 3 months, with little noticeable slowing of hair loss – but I realize that results take time.

My issue is this – I have INCREDIBLY sparsely-packed hair, although the shafts themselves are of normal thickness. Even when I wasn’t balding, my hair, when wet and clumped together, gave the appearance of baldness.

For some reason, my hair gets ‘oily’ and ‘wet’ really easily – dry, my hair looks quite good, but once oily and wet (and since I live in a humid in a climate) my hair looks quite bad. Is there any way to prevent my hair from absorbing so much moisture and to keep dry?

You could experiment with different shampoos that are made for oily hair. And maybe use a blow dryer (with a wide-toothed brush) on the warm setting long enough to dry your hair.

Can gel lead to hairloss. Years ago I used gel at morning after having a bath but I didn’t wash the gel at night in other words I slept with gel on my head. After months I noticed my hair is always thin and brittle not as it used to be . So what I am asking could gel lead to damaged follicles or can it accelerates hairless or what else can it do to follicles .thanks

Hair products and gels do not cause or accelerate hair loss. If your hair is thin and brittle, try a different hair styling product. Certain products might damage hair, but I don’t know what you’re using. Most name brand styling gels aren’t going to be an issue, and they certainly won’t cause you to have male pattern hair loss.

I read hair loss blogs and research products on a fairly regular basis. Today I stumbled across a product called Bioscal. Taking a look on the website it seems to have been through numerous clinical trails and the results they claim looked somewhat promising. My question is have you ever heard of this product and what would your comments be over the clinical trail results summarized.

This is another product line that I have no experience with, but am skeptical nevertheless. It appears to be just a set of shampoos and conditioners, but if you think it might be helpful, give it a shot. I doubt you’ll see much benefit as far as hair growth, though.

Their site says it is the “most effective and best documented topical hair loss treatment worldwide” — but I’d expect if this was really the case, it would be more well known and talked about within the industry. It isn’t.

Also, I don’t see where any of their clinical trials were published in peer-reviewed journals… so I don’t know what their trials actually contained. It sounds impressive to say “most effective” and mention studies that were done, but without proof, they’re just claims made on the internet.

That is a lengthy audio interview (35 minutes) about the Histogen HSC. I do like what I am hearing… or rather, I want to believe what I am hearing, but the science needs to be presented. Without good science, we have no real understanding of what is happening.
