Chemical Burn 5 Years Ago — Will My Hair Grow Back?
Hi.. 5 years back a lady left the relaxer too long so I had a bad burn and ever since hair started to get thinner & thinner. I ended up with a bald area on top of my head. its pretty big in size. around 2 inches wide & 1.5 inches deep. Do you think my hair would never grow again in that area? are there any products that you suggest I use to help me fix this mess?
Its very unlikely that you would see hair growing back again at this stage. It sounds like the chemical treatment may have caused scarring to that area of the scalp or burned the hair follicles resulting in permanent hair loss. This could be confirmed with a scalp biopsy.
On the assumption that you have a good supply of donor hair at the back and sides, hair transplant surgery could restore hair to a reasonable result. Another option is a reduction or excision of the hairless scarred area. This excision might be likely to need scalp expansion in your case if the area is very large.
Without further information, I cannot recommend any products that would restore significant hair in your case. However, you can try temporary camouflage type products like Toppik that can disguise the loss when the need arises. The picture on the right shows a badly damaged hair with the fibrils inside the hair shaft broken out like the spindles inside electric wires.

This is in regards to question #2 unless I misinterpreded I believe your not only looking for regrowth answers but answer that will give you some current solutions. How you look to other peaple is an issue at this time. Im 47 years old always had a full thick wavy head of hair one of my best qualities. A few monmths back that changed. because of insecurities I decided to highlight my own hair at home sadly i left it on way to long and i had already dyed it once thay month the result was handfuls of my hair coming out while rinsing. I then discovered that i had also been losing hair from stress. it is slow growing back, not all is but peaples opinions mattered I was so depressed and someone said “wig” i tried it its not perfect but its better then before i feel pretty again
my self esteem is improving. Ive learned alot about wigs once you get use to them its worth a little discomfort to feel like a woman again. They make full wigs, half wigs and even just top pieces, bang additions, extensions and ponytails ect.
The use of wig glue helps tremendously but when your home its important to take off your hairpiece so your hair can get sunshine daily and free circulation the hair needs to breath. if youve never thought a wig was for you give it a shot iM glad I did. If price is an issue the make synthetic wigs that are quite reasonably priced, if total comfort or you have seriously sensitive skin then the human hair wig would do nicely but keep in mind much more expensive. There are sales and if you relly look a human hair wig on clearance can be you solution or maybe buying a display wig for a much reduced price. It sounds like a top piece might be right for you. thank you Debra Ohanesjan
