Dutasteride Effectiveness for Alopecia
Why is the drug Dutasteride ineffective in some people with alopecia androgenetica yet effective for others.
As there are no studies on dutasteride and alopecia to reference, I would be intellectualizing here. There is no drug that can stop the genetic balding process, but the various drugs have different effectiveness against the process. Think of it as a ‘tug of war’, where the two sides are pulling against each other and a mud hole is in between the opposing sides of the rope. It is a back and forth process reflecting the strength of the men and the fatigue factor, metaphorically speaking. With the drugs against hair loss, the different drugs have different receptor strengths and the balding process goes through cycles where it is more active than other times. Many young men have active hair loss that is very aggressive. When that happens, the ‘strength’ of the hair loss is far greater than the strength of dutasteride or for that matter finasteride. The war swings between balding, thinning, stabilization, and reversal.
