Folliculitis Decalvans
Hello Doctor,
I am a 22 yr old African American that has been diagnosed of folliculitis decalvans. I am losing my hair at my crown area at an ernomous pace through scarring. I have had this for several years (8yrs). I have been on several medications but they only seem to have an impact in the beginning. Please is there anyway of aggresively treating this disease as well as recovering my hair in the scarred regions. If you have any dermatologic recommendations around the Tri-state area i would be grateful. Thank you.
This is a difficult problem and you must find a doctor with a particular interest in this disese as well as the training to deal with it. Check with the American Academy of Dermatology for a referral channel for this problem. If the dermatologist is uncomfortable with this, then he/she should refer you to an appropriate expert.
Hi, I am a 23 year old of African descent suffering from the same problem. I found your posting very helpful because I am also looking for a good dermatologist (Metro Atlanta Area). I searched the American Academny of Dermatology website but I was unable to find out if the doctors have specific training in dealing with Folliculitis Decalvans. I’m unsure of how to conduct a more specific search…any information would be very helpful. Thanks.
I too have the condition for over 10 years. Use Zinc and Ltyrozine to try and control but it is a battle. Have been using Listerene on the scalp to try and remove the sores with some success.
Im desperate! what started out as a pencil eraser size scab over 20 years ago has turned into a 2′ curcumference hair loss with scab and pus throughout the circumference. everytime a scab forms, there goes the hair with it. I have been on rifampin and sulfameth along with creams and shampoos over the last four years when it started its growth. cannot seem to find a doctor that would be effective in dealing with it in the west coast of florida. any information will be greatly appreciated. thank you
