German Stem Cell Hair Replication Technique
Dr. Rassman,
What can you tell us about this new German development?
Exciting stuff. Thanks for sending the link! I’ve embedded the video below.
The first two researchers are certainly stimulated to find a cure (they are very bald) so I would trust them. Growing hair follicles in a petri dish has been done before by Dr. Jahoda in the 1990s (here and here). When grown in the petri dish, it is exciting, but moving them into a scalp and having them grow is much, much harder.
Interesting stuff alright. Does anyone know where do they get the stem cells from, and how do they ensure they develop into hair follicles? Also I was kind of amused by that guy who was getting the hair transplant ! Sure his hairline was receding a bit, but overall I thought he had quite a full head of hair !
They are using two stem cells: dermal stem cells from the dermal papilla and skin stem cells from the epithelial stem cells.
They inject the stem cells into a 3d scaffold of a hair follicle, this way the cells know there roles and duties and communicate with each other to grow a hair follicle.
