Hair Loss from Ringworm in a 4 Year Old Child
My 4 yr old son was taking Griseofulvin for 4 months for scalp ringworm with no results. When the dermotologist stopped the Griseofulvin she gave him a topical treatment. The bald spot spread rapidly and became very large. A culture then showed that he no longer had ringworm. The doctor had a chunk of his scalp analyzed-no infection. She then gave him pills for fungus. No result. This is now on the 7th month of treatment. His scalp is as clean as a whistle, no bumps, no hair at all and no signs of hair growing back. The doctor said keep giving him the pills. I’m scared to stop the medication, scared to continue the medication (with blood tests every 2 weeks). Will his hair ever grow back? and should I try stopping the medication? When will I know that he has permanent hair loss from ringworm? and that the ringworm is all gone?
Perhaps your son needs a second opinion from another doctor. I am not his doctor and I cannot tell you if your son’s hair loss is permanent or what is responsible for it, particularly without an exam. I can only make guesses, but your son deserves more than just a guess. He needs a good diagnosis. Find another dermatologist for a second opinion.
My 5 Year old granddaughter has no eyebrows and her hair does not want to grow. She has white little pumps and a very bad itch
on her scalp.
my daughter is five. She has beautiful thick hair. Between the last months for the 2007/2008 school year, a friend was doing my daughter’s hair and notice some white spot on my daughter’s scalp. I was scared. she told me not to worry. i washed her hair and scrub to no appail. my daughter would go to school and i’d received phone calls and letters due to the fact that my daughter they noticed some white spots on my daughter’s scalp and she constantly scratches.i was scared. i let her daddie know about what’s going on and i also showed it to him. he told me it’s ringworm. i was scared. i went to the pharmacy, he gave me a medication. i used it for a short period of time but i was impatient to continue. the medication was useless so i left it alone. around that time i was pregnant and tired. i pretended that my daughter did not have that fungus on her scalp but everytime i tried doing her hair my heart ache for her and i start to lose to control. than my daughter started losing hair i was really losing it. i went to her pediatrician crying my heart out for a solution. she prescribed with oral and scalp medications. i’d used them on and off. that shit was still on her scalp. one time my mom told me to try lemon…… and i did for a few times to no appeal. i said f-it and left it alone as it was. three weeks ago her great grandma was complaining of something biting her. she suspected that it’s due to my daughter’s ringworm on the scalp. her daddie decided to give me some of his face medication. i was fed up cause it was taking its sweet time. so i decided to utilize toothpaste. i used it on saturday night and washed it out yesterday’s afternoon. oh lord i was hyped. everything is gone only spots are visible. i couldn’t believe my eyes. every weekend i am going to repeat the same scenario. eventually her scalp will be cleared up. now what do i do about the hair loss. do i utilize a special hair product. what type. was i supposed to utilize the toothpaste. what if something happens later on. what if her hair does not grow. I NEED SOME ANSWERS.
