Hair Relaxer Caused Chemical Burn?
Hallo! I used a “no-lye relaxer” about 2 months ago on my hair and it caused a bald spot on my scalp where no hair is to be seen. It has begun to ache a little bit since yesterday too. It is probably a chemical burn isn’t it? How could something like that occur? How can I treat this problem now? I am worried, that the hair won’t grow there anymore. Is it possible? Could you please advice me about how to treat this so that it will be healed soon? It is worrying me very much.
Thank You.
Chemical burns from relaxers are a common complaint. If the burn went down to the hair root level, it may not return. You must wait this out for about 8 months and you will then know.
I received burns on the edge of my hairline when I relzed my hair. I did feel some uncomfort while doing it but afterwards I felt a deep burning sensation for a couple of days. Yesterday I awoke and my face was swollen on both sides where the burning sensation started. I thought I would wait it out before going to a doctor and see what happens this morning. Well my face went down a whole lot, but I still have soreness in my head. I didn’t experience any hair loss as the hair is still there. Do you think I suffered 2nd degree or third degree burns and do you think I should see a physician right of way because of the swelling?
I did have my relaxer last june 29, and since I am lossing almost 1/2 of my whole hair. I am so depressed now because of that. ( My hair was dyed and had high lights. Please respond to me or get me something that I can use. It is not hormonal is only for chemical reason. I am 52 years old and I was pretty good before they did this accident.
I am unhappy…
Thanks for your kind help.

HHHEEELLLPPPPP!
I just did a home relaxer like the person above..Which I have done many times before..This time however I have dyed my hair, i did that about 4-5 weeks ago…When I washed my hair is just started coming out in clumps in the shower then brushing I lost about half of my hair & the more I brush the more that comes out…I just stopped brushing because i dont want to loose all my hair. I’m so scared and dont know what to do.PLEASE HELP
Calm down ladies or you can make things worst. First of all, do not scratch your head all day long before using a perm. Then put vaseline or grease on your scalp before relaxing. Next do not leave the perm in for more than the time that the box says. Last wash at least 6 times with neutralizer ph 5.5 or lower. Last use a deep conditioning. If you have experienced scalp burns or hair loss, calm down. It has happened to me and it will grow back. Just use a good shampoo, conditioner, oil, Dr. Miracles and antibiotic cream. And wait 2 months before your next relaxer. If you need more advice, e-mail me.
Have you heard about a chemical free relaxer called the “bodiphier relaxer” or “Look”?
I would like to try but I’am looking for someone who can give me an opinion about it.
Hello to all! I have been relaxing my hair for years and I never had a problem. But last week I put a regular Dark and lovely relaxer in my hair and now my hairline is gone, and my hair is coming out in clumps all over. I am devastated, but I’m going to cut my hair off, go natural, and get locks when it comes back. I think it’s time for a change.
Don’t ever do at home relaxers! Hello! Use common sense.
I am so upset. I got a relaxer thinking I could put in in for ten mins and relax my tightly curly hair…I have colored my hair alot…lol I was about 10 mins into it and my hair started melting right in front of me.. It was a johnson and johnson no lye relaxer. I want to sue them. I had very pretty hair. I am so upset…Is there anything that can stop the burn and the pain…My hair is breaking off in peices and looks like straw
Okay, i received a very harsh chemical burn on my scalp, my hair has been balding for months now, swelling on occasions, i touch it and its like my scalp is numb. and i finally figured out what to do!!! Use summers eve femanine wash to wash your hair, use a conditioning paks on your hair every 3 weeks, if you scalp gets red and itchy when you touch or comb it use cold compresses for 30 minutes a day, i use jergens ultra healting lotion with vitamin e on my scalp and i use hair oil instead of grease in my hair now and that’s it. it’s starting to grow back strong and healthy now. also feels very lightweight and the breakage has completely stopped. i’ve been perming my hair since i was 14 years old and now i will never do it again.
