How Does Seborrheic Dermatitis Not Cause Hair Loss?
How do they know that Sebhoraic Dermititus and Psoriosis do not cause hair loss? You wrote on your blog once that it can cause reversible hair loss indirectly by the inflammation accelerating telogen effluvium. Can the inflammation in someone that does not have telogen effluvium do this? Many (not all) of my outer brows fall out by just touching them gently. I have sebhoraic dermititus, is this accelerated a normal symptom of the condition or does this mean I also might have telogen effluvium?
- Seborrheic dermatitis causes scaly, itchy, red skin and dandruff. It is a skin condition. It is not a hair condition.
- Telogen effluvium is diffuse hair shedding which is triggered by some form of stress that makes the hair go into the shedding (telogen) cycle. Hairs usually grow back in 6 to 12 months.
I suppose any inflammation or trauma or stress can cause hair loss, but these types of hair loss are generally reversible and do not occur in everyone… just some susceptible people. I suppose extreme seborrheic dermatitis can trigger telogen effluvium, but it would be rare. It may cause some hair loss from scratching producing traction alopecia (not as drastic as telogen effluvium).
I have seborreic dermatitis and i am experiencing extreme hair loss. I also have irritating, flaky , itchy scalp condition. I have used more then 17 shampoos daily including, nizorale, denorex, neutrigina t-gel, head & shoulder, selsun blue, etc and lotions but nothing help. I have tried shaving my head three times in a year to control this problem while i was using the shampoos and lotions, still didn’t help. I went to 4 different dermatologist before and now my new doctor (fifth dermatologist)trying to control it through injecting steroids on my scalp. My question is, is it possible to control this disease (i know there is no cure)and will my hairs grow back and will i get my hairlines back like how it use to be before???
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Everytime I try to take dead skin from my scalp many hairs come attached with it. My question is if this is just temporary hair loss and will my hair grow back?
wash your hair with Apple Cider vinegar once a day, it won’t stop seborreic dermatitis, but it will really help it. It helped reduce mine by heaps. I have to do it every day.
For me it works way better than nizoral, but i still use nizoral twice a week (before i use apple cider vinegar)
It leaves your hair/scalp feeling smooth, clean and moist.
Also, drink a table spoon of it a day… its good for you. Especially if you have a irritated throat.
