Human Growth Hormone and Hair Loss
Doc, all the recent talk about baseball players and Human Growth Hormone got me thinking about whether or not a person injecting HGH is likely to speed up their hairloss.
I know certain steroids will definately speed up hairloss but HGH, to my knowledge, is not considered a “steroid”. Shopping around the internet for propecia/proscar (not the generic kind) I came accross a site that offers HGH under the name Jintropin. It has some great benefits listed, but injecting HGH must have some serious side effects.
I believe that you are correct. I have had a number of patients who were taking HGH and had acceleration of their hair loss.
Actually when taken in correct dosages, HGH actually REGROWS hair, repairs weakened/aged skin cells and can aid in maintaining a healthy weight. The serious side effects of HGH will occur when the dosages are too high and what usually happens is that your bones will grow, not in height but in width. HGH is the same hormone that a baby gets when they are breastfed from their mother that helps them grow and be healthy, hair loss is absolutely not connected with HGH.
It may cause hair loss, it may not cause hair loss. I merely reported that I’ve had patients experience accelerated hair loss while taking HGH, and your statements can’t change my findings.
Does the hair loss associated with HGH reverse with continued treatment or with discontinuation of treatment? That is, does the hair grow back?
hgh in proper dosing usually will not cause hair loss. especially if no steroids are taken simultaneously. dr rssmans observation may have other confounding factors accounting for the hair loss and in fact , observations not withstanding, a controlled study alone will yield the correct answer and not mere “observations” . sorry doc
