I Feel Terrible Pain When I Lose Hair
Im a 20 year old male, and Ive noticed about 3 months ago ive started to shed my hair along my frontal hairline as well as my scalp. The thinning is gradual, but I can tell that the more I mess with it, touch it, shampoo or comb it it gets much worse. My concern isnt going going bald, my concern is that I feel terrible pains when I do in fact lose hair. It feels as if someone is yanking on my head. Also, afterwards my hair feels very oily, and has a smell to it. Is this normal shedding? Im concerned this isnt male pattern baldness Im being faced with. Thanks in advance for your time, dedication and help.
I’m not making light of your pain, but it sounds like you are overly obsessed with your hair. The pain you feel may be from the emotional roller coaster that you are riding. Do you have someone close that you can talk with? You should try to get some emotional counseling.
Many men experience pain when they lose control over their lives or their health. Hair has been known to reflect such a loss of control. One patient told me, “I have control over everything in my life, what I do, how I feel, how much to work out, who I am friendly with and who become my friends. When it comes to my hair, I know that I have no control over it.”
Your answer is not right; the physical pain this guy feels is not in his head. When I started to lose my hair on my temples when I was 19 I too felt pain in the affected area of the scalp. My hair did start to become more oily and odorous too over the years.
It sounds like this guy has the symptoms of male pattern baldness…
That’s true… Sorry buddy! It happens to the best of us (me included). I felt this stinging pain in my skin as my hair fell out at 19. I went from full head to V shape in about 3 months… My best advice, SHAVE IT! :) After shaving my head and hitting the gym, I have been getting all kinds of attention. I have dated beautiful women and am the envy of all my buddies :) You’ll learn to live with it, just give it time.
