If I Pluck My Grey Hairs, Will They Disappear For Good?
Hi,Dr. Rassman
i have 5-6 grey hairs at the side of my hairs. if i pluck out my hairs, Can i solve this problem? or you have any solution for grey hairs?
im very young and This grey hairs makes me feel old.
Thanks in advance.
If you continuously pluck out your grey hairs, it might cause them to eventually stop growing… but it’s not going to make them regrow as your regular hair color. In other words, I wouldn’t recommend going that route. I don’t know how old you are, but some people just go grey at a younger age than you might expect.
At this point, the way to solve the problem of grey hair is by using hair dye. There’s talk about a pill to prevent grey hair, but it’s apparently still years away (see here).
Consistently plucking out hairs is called Trichotillomania. I wouldn’t risk any color hair, because eventually they will be lost forever. There are mild hair dyes that will help you if you are really worried about 5-6 hairs!
Plucking those hairs will eventually make you lose them forever. I would rather dye them!
Most men begin greying at the sides of the head first in the permanent zone for hair so plucking a few consistently greying hairs is unlikely to lead to any worsening of a possible balding condition.
And given that most women pluck grey hairs I’d be careful with the trichotillomania description. Manic behavioral disorders would probably need a more severe diagnosis than plucking a few grey hairs. Otherwise you’d end up counting shaving of your side burns as a manic condition too…
That said dye is the easiest option. There are a lot of male specific options for touching up a few grey hairs.
