At 17 years old, I wouldn’t be surprised if what you’re seeing is a maturing hairline. Have you seen a doctor or are you just treating yourself with over the counter supplements? You might not be experiencing male pattern hair loss, but rather, the maturation of your hairline (a totally normal part of getting older […]

What is his problem? He uses a product that has questionable value (Procerin) and adds more things to his regimen (including illicit drugs?!)… and he lifts weights to stay “mostly healthy”? I am not sure what you want from me. I can not endorse Procerin or Ecstasy as a way to stay healthy with a […]
From the Procerin website: “Procerin is a proprietary blend of herbal, mineral, and vitamin components. The 17-ingredient formula of Procerin tablets includes: Saw Palmetto Berries, Gotu Kola, Nettles, Magnesium, Zinc Sulfate,Eleuthero Root , Vitamin B-6, Pumpkin Seed Meal, and Muira Puma Root. Procerin XT Topical Serum ingredients include Gamma Linolenic Acid, Grape Seed Extract, Azelaic […]
I’ve already written about Procerin a few times before. I generally do not believe what I read when the only source is the manufacturer or the sales organization… or in the case of the site you sent, unsubstantiated message board claims. So while you say it is “obvious” that it has been proven to work […]
I would have expected the results you reported. Look up the other products here on this site (use the search box in the top right) and you may see similar predictions. Why not do it the right way and get your hair mapped out for miniaturization and then get a competent doctor to make the […]
Proscar (5mg finasteride) and Propecia (1mg finasteride) are medications that requires a prescription from a licensed medical doctor in the US. Any medical doctor can prescribe them. The only caveat is that in our practice, we generally like to document the degree of miniaturization of scalp hair with a computer video densitometer to quantify and […]
I do not know anything about Procerindirectly. However, I would suggest stopping the Procerin and focus upon Propecia first. Then with one of the substances gone, watch for what is changing. Accelerated hair loss does occur in genetic balding in phases. You may be going through one of those phases.
As I’ve said previously, Nioxin makes a good set of products that are popular, but there appears to be nothing in it that will stop hair loss. I’ve also commented on Procerin and laser therapy previously. Good starting points for blog posts about lasers can be found here and here. Dying your hair, when done […]
Unfortunately, since Procerin is not regulated by the FDA (as most supplements are not) there is little to no information in the medical literature regarding side effects and very few (if any) scientific studies. To complicate matters, humans will go through a shedding phase naturally and it is nearly impossible to tell if your hair […]
I have written about Procerin before (see past blog entries: Procerin and Procerin Info). The only topical treatment that seems to work is Minoxidil. Many add compounds to Minoxidil to try to make it more effective (e.g. Retin-A, which adds irritation to the skin and some burn to it as well) or combine it with […]
I originally commented on Procerin a few months ago (found here). I have read various articles about Procerin on the web, and there is an unsubstantiated claim that it is a DHT blocker. It might be right, but I can’t say for sure, as it is not FDA approved for that claim and good science […]
Dan wrote… The product you described, like many other similar products, adhere to a very loose standard for the health food additives which are naturally found in the environment. There are many natural herbs that are poisonous as well. There is no requirement for any of these products to prove effectiveness or safety, unlike those […]
It sounds like you are getting the response you need and want from Propecia (finasteride 1mg). You’ve been taking it since March, and so it’s entirely possible that you saw regrowth in that time from the medication. I doubt that the other things you are using are helping as much, but that’s one of the […]
Procerin is a boutique version of the herbal saw palmetto. Some people swear by it, others say it doesn’t work. There have been two studies that I’m aware of to determine the effectiveness of saw palmetto as a hair loss treatment, and they were inconclusive. What I know works for early hair loss is Propecia […]
Snippet from the article: Read the full story — San Jose man charged with pretending to be a doctor I assume the article is referring to Procerin, a saw palmetto-based tablet (if there’s a “Proserin” out there, I’m unfamiliar with it). Now I won’t debate whether Procerin works as a hair loss treatment, since regular […]
