Is Saw Palmetto a Good DHT Blocker?
Hi doctor my hair have been thinning for about 3 years (now i am in my late 22 of age), but i didnt notice till now shedding in the temporal area (only receding in the frontal hair line ), i am confused some are telling me that I have “Seborrhoeic dermatitis” but other dermatologists are telling me that I have male pattern hair loss -Alopecia. My question is does Seborrhoeic dermatitis cause the hair to thin like the dht effect or only makes the hair fall-knowing that in addition to my thinning I have some acne production especially on my nose and face areas-I am using Nizoral Cream 25 and Squad med shampoo to control Seborrhoeic dermatitis which is controllable using these medications. Does possible that I have both Seborrhoeic dermatitis and Male Pattern Hair Loss – I used monixidil 5% which resulted in few tiny hairs and I used propecia but i quiet it after 6 months due its sever sexual dysfunction and i am shifting now to Saw Palmeto —What is your comment doctor on saw palmetto on inhibiting DHT!! Thanks A lot Doctor”
It is certainly possible that you have both seborrhoeic dermatitis and male pattern hair loss. The two are not connected and seborrhea does not cause hair loss. Saw palmetto is not a good DHT blocker, as is claimed by many. There are only two DHT blockers that are proven to work (finasteride and dutasteride). You need to be managed by a good doctor.
Saw palmetto has done miracles for me, in the regrowth department (especially)
saw palmetto is wonderful for hairfall
I started taking Saw P. about 2 months ago and my hair actually starting to grow back in after 4 years of falling out.
I think this doctor is just trying to sell more prescriptions.. I have been using saw palmetto for the last year and noticed significant regrowth.
I’m happy with it.
Sell prescriptions? Ha!
yes, sell prescription!!! Ha! Isn’t that what you all do? Rip people off?
Sure Nick. I provide this free website with nearly 7000 questions answered because I am trying to rip people off. I am just doing a really bad job at it.
I agree with Nick.Doctors are here to sell prescriptions. There are so many natural herbs or alternative medicine that has been proven natural remedies-prescriptions are man made and have side effects. They are just afraid to be out of business once people switch to natural herbs for remedies.
You’re welcome to try out any natural herbs you’d like, but I will only recommend proven treatments. So far, there are no herbal remedies for treating hair loss that have been proven to work. There’s no fear of going out of business. If you want to waste your time, money, and hair, by all means…
Only out for your money… yet I don’t sell any products and answer questions for free every weekday? If you want to take saw palmetto, that’s completely fine by me. It isn’t scientifically proven to regrow hair, but you’re welcome to ignore science and go with your gut feeling. If it works, I’m pleased to hear it. But its a gamble as far as I’m concerned.
Hair loss is progressive and the more time you spend speculating that something could work, the more time you risk that the progression continues.
Hey Dr- Why would you affirmatively conclude that “Saw Palmetto is not a good DHT blocker” when there is no formal study or testing to confirm the effectiveness of Saw Palmetto in treating hair loss conclusively one way or the other? Rather than remaining nuetral and sticking to the not enough research on saw palmetto, your quick to shoot it down. Does everything always have to be about $$$. Whatever happened to truly caring about the patients best interests and just treating the condition?….This doctor has a hidden agenda behind this seemingly informative, free blog.
It seems like this doctors are just interested in making money instead of help people out.
Saw palmetto combine with beta sterols and pygeum got my head full of hair and my dad is bald…. Btw I’m already 28
OK I am a transgendered person, male to female. I am 35 and had lost almost all of my hair since I was 20 it has been falling out. I started taking Saw Palmeto and my hair has not only stopped falling out, it is growing back, in 2 months of taking it. I am taking pueraria mirifica as well, a natural estrogen herb. My therapist has wanted me to go on hormones, prescribed ones, until she has seen my results with the herbals I take. I swear by herbals, reason is, ALL the drugs that big pharma and doctors push are synthetics of herbs, or just completely synthetic. In order for a MD to obtain and keep a practicing license they must agree to the agenda that the system promotes. In other words they must prescribe and advocate ONLY the drugs remedies that have been approved by the FDA and ADA, and all other associations that insure them as well. Money rules the medical field, if you don’t think so try to get surgery without insurance or, wait for the collection agencies to collect what you owe, not to the doctors directly, but to the insurance companies that have the doctors by the balls.
Hey Doc, If there are no clinical studies how can you say with such conviction that Saw Palmetto does not work? Im glad you are not my PCP.
to “jennifer from santa fe” what herbals do you take? i’m asking for my wife, who suffers from hair thinning/loss, post menopause and insomnia. thanks for any help you can give us
MD’s are licensed drug pushers and are heavily influenced by the pharmaceutical industry. MD’s are trained to treat symptoms – not causes and find a drug to treat the symptoms – hence they will never recommend natural treatments – doing so would reduce their profitability immensely. Notice also that MD’s are practitioners – effectively “practicing” their drugs on unsuspecting people – many of which have died at the hands of these same MD’s that they put their trust in. Regardless of what this idiot dr. may say – give Saw Palmetto a try before you take his recommendation – keep in mind that a drug is just that – it drugs the body and the long term consequences might be worse than what this Dr wants you to believe. His living depends on pushing drugs – not helping people….
