Is This a Sign of Alopecia Areata?
I have a patch of hair missing on the back my head, size of a quarter. The spot is not shiny or totally missing hair, there is some hair growing but not alot. Is this still a sign of Alopecia Areata. OTC methods?
Thank you
This is often the way alopecia areata presents, but you could have other causes such a ringworm, as well. Get to see a dermatologist and have it evaluated. There are no over the counter medications to treat what you do not know you really have.
Over the last six years, I have gradually developped a bald spot on the front-right hand side of my head. It first appeared behind the hairline and has gradually expanded front and backwards and is now about an inch in diameter. The spot secrets a lot of oil/sebum in comparison to other areas on my scalp(in general I have very oil scalp and face). It also used to produce a lot of dandruf until I started using Nizoral shampoo. I have been using provillus and Rogaine which do not seem to produce any visible results. Instead I have developped more facial and body hair even in areas I where did not have hair before.
Also, I seem to be developing another bald spot on the left side but it is not very visible yet. I would not mind going bold but I have plagiocephaly which I can only disguise with my hair(African-Kinky hair). I have spoken to 3 surgeons and all of them will not do something to correct my plagiocephaly because they say it is not visible owing to my long hair cover, and the risks associated with my ITP(Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia). I am really stressed out and I have a lot of social anxiety issues which have caused me to be withdrawn.
Is there anything I can do for my balding spot and anything I can do reduce the likelihood of going bald. NB, My father and some of my uncles and paternal cousins are bold but others have full heads of hair including two uncles past the age of 60.
Thanks
