Just 2 Small Patches of Scalp Are Itchy and Flaky…
Hi,I am a 26 year old female and need your help desperately. About 7 months ago I had 2 small patches of scalp that was itchy and flaking on each side of my head, but the rest of my scalp was fine. Over time it spread everywhere except the top and back of my head. Now my hair is falling out on the sides of my head. I have tried every over the counter dandruff shampoo but nothing has touched it. What does this soundlike to you? I have read that scratching can make your hair fall out, but will it grow back if I stop scratching? Thank you so much for your time.
You should seek the services of a good dermatologist to examine your scalp. Unfortunately, I can not tell much just based on what you’ve told me.
Hi. I am a female (just turned 27), and I hope my story helps you!:) And me!
Since I was little I sporadically get minor eczema on my ears, and when i was a teenager it spread slightly to my scalp – above my ears at first – then, as i scratched it, i spread it to little patches all over my head, but kinda the opposite of you – mine was/is mostly on the top and back of my head!!
I went to my doctor after the first-ish outbreak (and again just two months ago to a walk in clinic since I’m in a new town) and they both gave me this liquid – I think its the liquid version of the hydrocortisone cream for eczema, but I can’t find my product sheet and I can’t remember the technical name of it.
Anyways I use the liquid once (or twice if i get really itchy) a day when I have outbreaks – all you do is squirt it on and dab it into the spots, but I think it works really well to help not only control the size of the patches but also it really calms the itch. But I do think the very first stuff I got worked better than my new stuff (more info on that below)
My patches are not as big as yours sound, but other than the new stuff I just got, the last time I needed to get the liquid was about ten years ago.
~~ The doctor I just went to did ask me tho if anyone has diagnosed it as psoriasis, which i think is prone to a larger sized affected area than eczema but has very similar symptoms, so that might be a consideration too. ~~
And actually just in the last few months – ever since my most recent outbreak and the new stuff i got to treat it – I’ve been feeling paranoid that MY hair was thinning at the back and at the top – where MY head is most affected!!! Then I get stressed about it which I’m sure doesn’t help!! Now maybe I wasn’t paranoid!
That’s all I have, so if you have had any headway with your situation (or not) please post back! I would love to keep sharing information and tips!
P.S. Total Side Bar Alert!!
I have been meaning to try a sea salt shampoo/soak on my head.
Once I got a piercing and it got irritated and wouldn’t heal. I was told to clean it with iodine, but it wasn’t working. I would up visiting my aunt who told me to clean it with sea salt instead of iodine. Not only did the sea salt completely heal my piercing perfectly within days (it was really irritated!), but it got rid of the iodine stain that showed up and stayed put after the second time of iodine cleaning!
