Low Hairlines of Celebrities
Why do movie star’s like Ben Affleck have such low, obtrusive hairlines? I found this site all about balding movie stars. Moviestar.nu
I think that some of these celebrities wore wigs for certain movie roles (probably the makeup artists did them for the character they had to play), and the site is confusing hairpieces in movies and hairpieces in real life. Your thoughts?
What you see is often an illusion that is created by the actor (or even their stylists) through hair pieces, make up, or even good hair transplants. Taking what I had said about John Travolta or Matthew McConaughey in the past, it is evident that these men would not be the sex idols that they have become if their hairlines rode high on their face. Actually, I don’t know if Mr. Travolta is still a sex idol, but he certainly was considered one in the past.
There are actors that transcend this low hairline sexy paradigm, such as Paul Newman (see photo at right), but they developed their careers and their sexy images when their hairlines were low and they were able to establish their sexy image without fighting hairline recession. Unfortunately, our society is superficial and it is easier to project the correct first impression from the frontal look. So sexy is the childhood frontal hairline in a man with a lean face and body. It takes just a second for most people to know if a man looks sexy, and that look is always associated with a youthful childlike hairline in a young maturing body.
Many times, I have had the opportunity to put back the youthful hairlines on male models or soap opera stars who started to lose their youthful hairline and develop a mature (non-balding) hairline. For them, the youthful hairline is job security. They do not want, nor can they tolerate the normal mature hairline, which still looks good. However, our society tells us that the sexy man image is the young man’s look. I am sorry to say that these young men with their youthful hairlines are like young meat for the females who fantasize on their ability to lure such men into their bedrooms.
I disagree completely with your assertion that the sexy look is “always associated with a youthful childlike hairline in a young maturing body.” I think that is promulgated mainly by men. Most women prefer the mature look and beyond. There are many celebrities who have had substantial recessions and are still considered very handsome. Christian Slater, Heath Ledger (R.I.P.), Johnny Depp has a mature hairline, Nicholas Cage, Anthony Edwards, Luke Perry, Tom Selleck (when he slicked it back), Nick Nolte had a mature hairline. There are dozens more examples of men with Norwood 2 and 3’s who are considered handsome. I think you are mistaking handsome for pretty. I agree that pretty boys have low hairlines, but handsome MEN have Norwood 2’s and beyond. Just my opinion.
I disagree as well. Lots of women tell me they are very attracted to guys with a mature hairline. Also, as far as popular actors who had mature hairlines when they were fairly young, don’t forget Edward Norton, James Dean, and Marlon Brando, who is widely considered to be the greatest actor of all time.
Jack nicholson… longest lasting sex symbol hollywood has ever seen has had a receding hairline norwood 3-4 since day one.
What about Jason Statham..
Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel
Come on..
I have to agree with all the comments as well. As a trained doctor, you should be advising all your “TV” clients that having a hairline of a 18 year old looks ridiculous on the face of a 40 or 50 year old. I’ve seen these guys in the commercials and they look funny.
Lets face it, when guys become “sex symbols” it’s because they have a great body, good looks and a great hairline. But they have this at 20; not at 40. So trying to make a 40 plus year-old think he’ll be a 20-something sex symbol is pure false advertising. That day is gone and it doesn’t matter what kind of hairline they have. A 40-something year old will never be a sex symbol to 20 somethings.
Also, as far as the comment that John Travolta and Matthew McConaughey were sex symbols only because of their hairline is again incorrect. These guys were very good looking guys and they had the whole package. It just wasn’t the hairline.
Come on Doc, stop playing psychologist!
