Medical Causes of Miniaturized Hair?
in regards to low testosterone and low lh question that was answered…..
Are other medical causes that would contribute to hair miniaturization other than DHT/aga?
Male pattern baldness is not the only cause of miniaturization, which could be seen in many other conditions, such as Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA). Most of the cases of miniaturization are chronic conditions with gradual thinning of the hair. In more acute balding conditions, such as stress related hair loss, fungal infections, or alopecia areata, you may not see any miniaturization.
Over the past 3yrs I’ve experienced quite a bit of stress and an equal amount of depression (I believe the depression was worse and probably initiated the stress). About a year ago I decided to talk to my primary physician and he put me on Anti depression drugs (first paxil then welbutron, then zoloft as a few months went by and each drug I used didn’t seem to work). After about 6 mths or so I decided none of these drugs were working for me and basically stopped taking them. My hair began falling out at the beginning of this whole episode close to 3 yrs ago. I noticed it falling out in the shower as it came out in clumps like a cancer patient! It kind of freaked me out and began making things worse. My hair prior to this situation was extremely thick and course, I realize I’m getting older (35 yrs old now) and the body eventually begins to break down, but one of my questions to you is will my hair grow back close to the way it was? My hair has grown back somewhat, in certain areas (frontal part) it seems to be growing but very thin / almost like peach fuzz. It has definitly stopped falling out the way it was and I’m hopefull that it will come back in. I’ve also used marijuana to maintain my stress issues, is this hurting my chances of hair regrowth? I have been taking Vitamins B (Biotin)5mg, zinc 50mg, and Iron 65mg Daily. Is this a good route to take and or could I possibly do something else to help the situation? Thankyou for your time!
