Meridia (Sibutramine) and Hair Loss
I am a 36 year old female and have started noticing that my hair is thinning at my part mainly in the front. I have always had thick hair but now I can see my scalp through my hair in the front. It hasn’t gotten very bad, but I’m worried that it might. I have been taking Meridia for a couple of months and have lost about 10 pounds. Does Meridia cause hair loss or thinning?
Meridia (sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate) is an orally administered medication for the treatment of obesity. Meridia acts through the central nervous system by blocking your appetite.
Hair loss is not one of the reported side effects of this medication, but some nutritional deficiencies can cause hair loss. You should see your doctor and discuss your weight loss program and nutritional balance.
I am a 38 year old female with this exact same problem. I’ve been taking Meridia for about four weeks, and have noticed hair loss at the top of my head, exactly where you said your is. I can see through my hair near my part. I’m a bit worried about it. I’ve also noticed I’ve been getting dandruff, which I’ve never previously had a problem with.
