New Shampoo Causing Thinning in Teen?
I am a 16 year old male and I’ve been noticing since about a week or two ago I’ve started losing much more hair than usual. When I take a shower, a lot more hair collects on the drain than ever used to before and when I comb my hair at least 10 hairs fall out. I’ve always had very thick and strong hair and it’s worrying me. I also notice that each hair that’s falling out is very thin and weak-looking. I have been using Head and Shoulders Intensive Care for a couple months now. Do you think it could be the cause?
I doubt that the shampoo causes your hair loss, but the underlying factors that make people use the shampoo may do that. Head and Shoulders shampoo is used for seborrheic dermatitis, which is an inflammatory disorder of the skin. This condition can possibly initiate hair loss or accelerate the loss due to the other causes.
actually, i have read a few reports suggesting that Selenium Sulfide, the active ingrediant in dandruf shampoos like selsen blue do cause hair loss. i do not know the ingrediants of head and shoulders but i owuld be weary of these kidns of shampoos.
i really loved using the orange coloured selenium head/shoulders shampoo, cuz it really worked to keep dandruff at bay.. but ya over the past 2 months so much hair has been falling out everyday – everytime i brush my hair and when im washing it, and random hair strands appear all the time when im at school and at home. my hair is shoulder length, and they are like a thick handful of hair that comes out…my mom had the same problem so we stopped using it.. does the shampoo eat away at your roots or something o.0 maybe its somethin gto do with acidity?
you are probably losing hair cus of malnutrition, if you`re that young. i suggest you take some multivitamins or start chewing some green veggies! eat some HDL too. you need a well balanced diet.
i am 16 female and i have read a few complaints above and it is very simarlar to my problem, i have used head and shoulders for more than 10 years and about 3 weeks ago i have noticed hair falling out in clumps, my hair was very thick and frizzy previous days but after using blue head and shoulders, it has become thinner by the day and my parting is starting to turn out wrong as it shows too much of the scalp, i do eveything to hide the scalp by re arranging the fringe side by side but this is not working, could any1 think of an alternative for me to use so my hair can grow bk???? plz help!
I am 21 yr old male and I too was loosing much hair at about 16 years old. I noticed the drain thing as well as the itching and burning. Product after product nothing worked. The doctors told me the same endless non-sense about how I was crazy for blaming the precious products. Four years later I discovered a yeast condition called Candida because the scalp condition was similar to athletes foot with the smell, itch etc. I cut out yeast for about a year and condition improved but didn’t disappear. I began washing my head with no products for two weeks two to three times daily with powerfull water and my scalped really itched and hurt but after about 2 weeks it started to clear up. Now I continue the cycles but throw in Nizoral about twice a week and rinse 1-2 times daily. Great results. Also strong anti-histamines like benadrill seemed to aid. Shampoo allergy. I am convinced the products slowly clog the follicle and the immune system tries to fight away the products in turn, destroying the follicle.
I purchased a bottle of head and shoulders today and my dad told me I was sure to lose my hair now. I asked what made him think that and he informed me that his grandmother used head and shoulders when she was younger and lost a lot of hair. I understand losing hair due to old age, but there are way too many complaints as to how hair has been lost due to head and shoulders. I am planning on returning my bottle tomorrow!
I have also noticed my hair shedding. It’s in the drain after I shower, my brush, when I wake up there is even hair on the bed that fell out during the night. I have long, thick hair LUCKILY you can’t tell. I have never had this problem and now I am getting worried. I too, thought maybe it’s the shampoo I just switched a few weeks ago when this started. I have been researching and came up with this: Telogen Effluvium. Google it and read about it I think all of you may find this interesting. There is also another thing I am looking into, a pituitary tumor. This also causes severe shedding. There is a simple blood test to rule out the pituitary tumor. You just need to get your prolactin level checked. If it’s the Telogen Effluvium it will clear up in a few month 6-9 to be exact and it will fix itself. If it’s the pituitary gland then there is medication and the hair will correct itself. This brain tumor is treatable, I am being checked this morning for my prolactin level… wish me luck in finding out what is wrong!!
