It is unfortunate that your grafts were placed at poor angles and your results are questionable. Your story of a bad procedure result illustrates the fact that hair transplant is for LIFE and you should do your research of the doctors and see their work first hand before going ahead with the surgery. There is […]

I just got back from the 17th annual scientific ISHRS meeting (basically a hair transplant doctor’s convention), which went on from July 22-26. Lots of information was presented… lots of lectures, presentations, and discussions. This year’s meeting was in Amsterdam, so I had quite a long flight back to California when it was all over […]
I reached out to a reader/writer/commenter that has previously sent in some great insights about FDA trials to get his thoughts on the latest Lexington HairMax LaserComb study that was released (read the abstract of the study here). He wrote back with a great overview, and although lengthy, it’s a worthy read for those interested. […]
At the New Hair Institute, our technicians were all internally trained by me. They are not certified by any state agency. If you check with Dr. Shapiro, you will find that I was the doctor who trained him in FUT. Our technicians do both cutting and placing of the grafts and the surgeon is either […]
It sounds like the team used the Choi Implanter, which is as instrument that makes the recipient site and puts in the hair at the time the instrument is withdrawn (see image at right). It requires proper insertion of the graft into the instrument and it takes considerable dexterity to do this. These instruments are […]
First, you should see an endocrinologist to see if hormone replacement therapy can get you the hair you want on your chest and in your underarms. Then, if this fails, a hair transplant should be your last option (hair would come from the scalp).
If you look at the grafts that are shown (see photos), the quality of the grafts extracted with this new technique speak volumes to what our new method can do. The new technology is presently being covered by a U.S. Patent application, which I believe will eventually allow me to keep the technology restricted to […]
I wanted to call your attention to yesterday’s announcement relating to follicular unit extraction (FUE). As the ‘inventors’ of the procedure, publishing the first authoritative article in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery in 2002, I have taken a keen interest in the way this procedure is delivered throughout the world. Much of what I have […]
As you did not identify the doctor, I will tell you some of the problems I have with what you reported above: “My doctor says i need to have the second procedure done now” — One never needs to have a second procedure, as the first one should’ve been designed as a stand alone procedure. […]
At just 5 months post-surgery, you can not tell how successful a hair transplant was. You shouldn’t be in such a rush to expect failure. Usually the growth just starts at 4-5 months, so I would expect that by the 6-8th month you should see 80+ percent of the hair grown.
My medical group had tried to repeat the work after we heard about it from the doctor who said that he invented the technique. We did it just as he said it was to be done, and as was expected, the results were essentially a complete failure to grow hair. As far as I am […]
There are a handful of hair transplant surgeons who claim expertise in follicular unit extraction (FUE) in the U.S. You should visit the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) for a listing of qualified surgeons and there is a sub-group from this list that do this procedure. Some good hair transplant doctors do not […]
I really cannot tell you what is to be expected and what is poor or good growth without examining you. Not being your doctor puts me at a great disadvantage. It seems you are in good communication with your physician and I would recommend that you follow up with that doctor. Sometimes the full growth […]
There has been considerable research on taking hair follicles, freezing them and trying to ‘wake them up’ for reimplanting later. Failure is very high and after a few weeks, there is virtually a 100% failure rate. It appears that freezing them with the various techniques available will kill the hair follicles.
I do not understand why your doctor suggested that you can not use finasteride (Propecia). Finasteride get metabolized in the liver like many other medications. If you are in liver failure, then that may be a different story. Its use needs to be controlled and it probably needs dose adjustments in the patients who have […]
