Dr. Rassman PLEASE help, I was planning on sticking with fin but this morning after taking fin I had the worst brain fog and memory problems I’ve ever had. Stopping the finasteride is critical here. It may take a few weeks for the brain fog to go away. It stays in your body’s tissues for a few weeks, lessening each week until it is gone within about a month or less. You should have a doctor managing this problem for you. I can’t be that doctor over the internet.
There may be a suggestion of hair loss in the crown, but what about elsewhere, hair loss that you can’t see. You can lose hair up to 50% and not see the loss, but then if you start treatment after the 50% loss, what you lost may be gone for good. Low ferritin or low iron can cause hair loss and is a common finding in women. A low iron level needs to be treated.

Miniaturization is the stage that the hair shafts go through as they are progressively lost with genetic balding. They often get thinner and thinner and eventually shorter and stop growing before falling out and never returning. That is the most common scenario for hair loss.

If these symptoms are the cause of the drug finasteride, you shouldn’t be on it. They usually go away in 1-3 months.

Normally how long does it take for the anti-androgens to push all the telogen hairs out and replace them with anagen hairs with a bigger diameter, thicker, denser, which is what the increased shedding phase boils down to being afraid. My mother’s a dermatologist and told me to wait for 6 weeks for it to stop and if it takes longer than that and the shedding doesn’t stop then it’s abnormal and I should try another drug
Ignore the shedding with finasteride because it eventually goes away and the benefits then come on. Sometimes the shedding is not shedding but a rapid genetic hair loss being expressed and in that situation drugs like finasteride work to slow or stop the loss
